Upcoming Family Reunion

I'm helping my mom plan our family reunion for next Febuary and we're trying to come up with ideas for the kids. We've got 20-30 kids under 14 that will be there and we don't want them running around everyones ankles the entire weekend. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

I have a few questions for you. You didn't mention whether or not this will be strictly an indoor reunion or if outdoor activities be available.
(If your reunion will be in a cold area, outdoors will probably be out of the question in February). Will you have a "Children's Activities Director", Babysitter, or other child care provider? (Older children/teens will sometimes gladly "volunteer" (especially if monetarily supplemented) to do this).

Children at family reunions can play the same games as one would play at a birthday party or group games with which most of us are familiar. Games such as "pin the tail on the donkey" (or somethng similar); duck, duck, goose; Bingo; Twenty Questions; blind man's bluff; hot potato and other such games are a good indoor games.
Arts & crafts and other activities such as puppet making, ice cream sundae making, and face painting are always fun (messy though). There are several very good books available in party shops and bookstores on these subjects.

Scavenger hunts are one of the best outdoor games. You can hire a "Rent a Naturalist" or animal handler for Nature themed activities.

I have done several family reunions, bringing live (misunderstood) animals. I don't know where you are located, but I may be able to refer you to someone who does something similar in your area.

Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.

Hey there Kathy. I just took a look at your site and I'm definitely going to talk to my mom about it. We're having the reunion in AZ. I think that would be way too cool! As a matter of fact I think even the adults would like it.

We did ask my cousins, 15 and 16, if they wouldn't mind helping out with the kids and I think after a little more persuasion that we'll be set for babysitters. We told them that they could bring a friend. I didn't even think about the old standby games. Thanks for your help! I'd love a recomendation if you've got one for the Phoenix area.

Hi again Kevin,

Yes, I know several people in the AZ area, particularly in Tucson. I know that's far frrom Phoenix, but maybe they'll be able to help you.

Please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone and I will give you some names of some people. They are mostly entomologists, though ("bug" scientists).
