Multi-Themed/Non-Themed Wedding
My wedding`s not till Sept. `06 which I know is quite a ways away, but the next two years will be busy with my career, so I want to pace myself with the wedding planning.
I was thinking of doing a fall theme, but I keep finding things I like that don`t have anything to do with fall, like having betta fish in vases as centerpieces, favors in Chinese take-out boxes, and a cake shaped like stack of books (we`re both bookworms and I`m a writer). I still want to incorporate fall colors and leaves, though. Has anyone else NOT had a specific theme, or combined a few different themes, and if so, how did it work out? Any ideas would be appreciated!

My sisters did not have a theme in their double wedding.I would suggest that if you are going to do this, however, stick to your wedding colors. As long as you do,it should turn out just fine.

We are having a double theme. Our colors are burgandy, hunter green, and ivory. My first theme is fans, my bouguet (and bm`s) are fan shaped, my guest book, ringbearer pillow and invitations are also fan shaped. And since I will be in the Air force when we get married, I am having my throw away bouquet done in camo. Colored flowers, an Air Force cake topper and a few things here and there that are military/patriotic related. I am walking down the aisle to the AF theme. We are going to have the sword ceremony and use a military sword to cut the cake with.
I think it is great to incorprate things that are important to you. We are getting married in October of 2006 so we also have time to plan. Just pick a color or two and have fun!

I`m not having any themes in my wedding. It works for others, but I feel too restricted. I am having japanese invitations, a tostada bar, and a very traditional wedding cake. These are the things that we enjoy and this attitude allows us the freedom to choose whatever we like. I think you should do whatever makes you happy and not worry about having everything be matching or perfect.

I did not have a "main theme" but sort of a Victorian themed wedding. It was held in a local Victorian mansion. However, I did not want to go all out on this theme by having the wedding party dress up in Victorian costumes. And, I don`t care much for Victorian style wedding gowns either, so I didn`t wear one. I wore a modern style gown. I also tried to incorporate my wedding colors as much as I could into the wedding and reception.

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it! The advice about the colors is good, I think I`m going to use late summer/early fall colors like crimson, orange, light green, and plum, and use them consistently on everything, including the "books" on the cake. After hearing/reading too many horror stories about betta fish dying (or pooping a lot) while being used as centerpieces, I`ve decided to do something else, but I haven`t decided what.
The Air Force wedding sounds cool and original!
Nikki, I`m in Colorado.

What about an ice sculpture for a centerpiece?

Wal-mart carries a do it yourself ice sculpture kit now, I think it is like 20.00 or so, not sure exactly though.
