1st Anniversary Wedding Cake

Is there any kind of ediquette for eating the top of the wedding cake? Is it just the bride and groom that are supposed to eat it?

Only the bride and groom eat the top layer of the wedding cake. Nobody else eats it. It is frozen for one year, then the bride & groom eat it on their first year anniversary.
