My daughter is planning a halloween wedding this year. I am looking for tasteful ideas for the reception decorations, cake and etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A Halloween Wedding sounds perfect!
I hope it is a theme wedding because the "Formal Wedding" typically sucks. Why? simply because formal weddings are too structured and don`t get everyone attending the wedding involved. People that aren`t involved in a wedding are critic`s and from past experience in photographing weddings the Formal Wedding is full of critics.
The theme wedding will definately make everyone, young and old, a vital participant in the wedding. As for the theme wedding rules I would recommend that everyone at the wedding should wear a costume or rent a costume that fits the choosen theme that the bride and groom has choosen, just make sure that masks that cover the entire face isn`t allowed. There are a couple of reasons for this.
First, if uncle Vinny is wearing a mask, he won`t be recognizable when someone takes a picture of him. And Second, there is no way that someone will wear their costume the entire night while wearing a mask. Which will lead others into taking off their costumes at the reception, then the next thing you know half of the crowd has taken their costumes off... So make sure that everyone attending the wedding is wearing comfortable costumes.
Having said all that, as for specifically answering your quetion. You won`t have nearly as many worries in planning and dealing with a theme wedding, one thing to note is that mistakes that occur durring the theme wedding will rarely be noticed. Whereas mistakes made at a Formal wedding will be much more noticable, everyone will be a critic at the formal wedding vs. Everyone too busy playing their roles in their theme wedding costume to worry about being a wedding critic.
So as for what`s acceptable and what`s not? If you`re planning a formal wedding make sure to hire a wedding planner to help you make sure things go off without a hitch; When planning a theme wedding have fun with your imagination because everything will generally fall into place all by themselves and your wedding guests will help make sure everything comes out terrific!
