Outdoor, Simple, Fun, Cheap Place -- NJ/NY

I`ve got to find someplace to relocate a wedding to (not mine) in the Northern NJ area. A primary consideration is that it be beautiful, of course, but it also needs to be cheap and ideally should be able to be a place we can have a reception either right there or very nearby.

Outdoors would be great. The wedding`s of somsone who loves being outdoors, and we`ve considered some parks, etc.

The wedding will only be about 20 people, and is on May 8. That`s little enough time that most traditional wedding sites will be booked, but untraditional is fine here.

If we could be sure of nice weather, we`d have a cookout for a reception. But we can`t be sure of temp or rain or any of that. But with only 20 people, we might be able to just go to a restaurant nearby.

Places we`ve thought about are parks like Bear Mt. Or Delaware Water Gap, but neither offers us the second half of the equation. Some restaurant with an outdoor component in a beautiful setting would work nicely, I think.

Any ideas? Please don`t hold back. We need some ideas.

Just an idea, why not try looking for a bed and breakfast or a small inn?

Well, that`d be great. I guess I didn`t really make the point, though, that we`ve got some serious time constraints, and don`t live in the area in question (though I happen to be down here visiting today from Boston).

Does anyone know some nice places worth checking out?

Some public parks have gazebos that they will rent out for the day. Also, if you are looking for a "beautiful" outdoor place, try a botanical garden in a nearby city. They often host weddings. Also, a local zoo might be an option. I`ve heard some people do get married at the zoo, its usually a very lush green backdrop for a wedding.
