Making A Runner / Aisle

Hello. I`m getting married outside in June by the sea. I`ve decided to make a runner out of some sort of cloth to serve as an aisle. I looked into renting one or buying one but nothing seemed to come in the color I want, a deep raspberry. So I`m wondering if anybody has done this or has any ideas. I`m trying to decide on the type of material to use and the dimensions of the runner. I think I may use a canvas painter`s drop cloth and adjust the size then painting it the exact color I have in mind.

Cassie-
What type of fabric and paint did you use?

I would recommend the type of fabric used for "dress lining". Its pretty cheap and comes in so many colors. Any fabric store can show you where they keep the "dress lining" fabric. You can also buy special fabric paints, but that can be pricey.

If you`re having an outdoor wedding, don`t bother with a runner... You`re only inviting a mishap... Winds blow outodoors and no-one at the wedding will comment on your precious raspberry colored runner, unless it was blowing around causing all kinds of havoc during your wedding cerimony.

I was thinking of using this idea too but then I spoke to someone who did this she said it was a total nightmare. The girls shoes got stuff in the runner and the in the picture the runner is all messed up it just look awefull. The bride said she was so concered with the runner she kept looking down and it shows in her picture. Just look at all the options. JMO

I too am trying to make a custom aisle runner for my Sept. Wedding. I`m trying to make one either a deep rich burgundy/wine color or a goldish. Painting is turning into a BIG source of stress and I`m thinking of finding a sheer embroidered fabric somewhere and sewing it to the heavy cotton duck fabric I already bought for extra weight so it doens`t move around. I`ve heard runners can become a BIG pain if they`re used in an outdoor wedding but my wedding is indoors. I`d like to exchange ideas with other brides.

I found a canvas hallway dropcloth that measures 4 ft by 15ft. I bought 2 and will paint them w/ raspberry colored semi-gloss oil based paint and lay them end to end for a runner 4 ft by 30 ft. I will use this outside and pin it into the ground with T pins that have the tops painted to match the runner. I think I found the runner at Ace Hardware online, but I just did a search on "hallway drop cloth". I hope that helps.
