Amount Of Wedding Gift

My husband and I are invited to the wedding and reception, in June 2004, of an employee`s sibling who has worked for us in the past. We live on Long Island, NY where the affair is to take place. The event is a Sat. Afternoon formal to semi-formal affair. What would be the correct amount of money to give as a gift?

There is no minimum or maximum to give. Guests should give what they can afford and what they feel is appropriate.

I would give based on how well I knew the couple. Are they close friends, or just casual friends? For family members I give slightly more. You can also find out if they have registered anywhere.

I typically people try to give a gift of equal value to what the hosts have spent on them. If you know where the reception is being held you can probably guess roughly how much your meal would cost add on a bit more for cake and liquor and since you are a couple you would multiply by two.
