How Much Booze Do I Need?

I`ve been working on the plans for my wedding in June and I`m a bit stumped about how much booze to buy. We are expecting about 150 guests and I think it will be a heavy drinking crowd. The caterer is suppling all the mixers & other stuff, I just need to buy the liquor. Does anybody know how to calculate how much is needed for an 8 hour event?

We are having our reception at a Golf Course and they suggested that we use 3.5 drinks per person coming. (They said to include everybody, even children, because some will drink more and some will drink less). However if you have a heavy drinking crowd I would maybe plan on 5 drinks/person. You can always check with the liquor store you buy it from and see if they will let you return any unopened bottles.

I don`t know if you have a Cost-Co where you live but I know they will let you re-turn any unopened bottels!

We have made enough wine for 1/2 a 750ml per guest (about 2.5 glasses each) and 3 shots each. I figured that woud be a minimum for a moderate drinking crowd. There are some people who won`t drink at all and others that will turn themselves into fish for the night... So i think it will all even out in the end. Have you looked into providing a taxi for the night for the folks who love their drinks?

YOu may need to buy a lot. Is there a Sam`s Club in your area, or a Costco?

Thanks for all your help. I think I`ll aim for about 5 drinks per person and try to provide as many options as possible. I`m really very concerned about returning extras.
