I believe the mardi gras colors are gold, green and purple, so these should be your wedding colors. Also, get a "King Cake", the kind with the small plastic baby on top. Mardi Gras beads could be given as favors for the wedding guests. I think its a great theme for a wedding.

You can also do the umbrella dance (I believe that is what it is called). My other half is from there and at his sister`s reception they did it. It was different and unique enough for us to want to do it, too. The bride and groom wear masks as well as the receiving line and they do this dance and throw beads out to the crowd.

Get masks for everyone, do a masquearade ball. Before the season starts each krewe hosts a spectacular ball, the bigger the krewe the grander the event, black-tie balls and lots of ballgowns and purple, gold, green colors. It`s beautiful.
Get a jazz ensemble. The `Second Line` refers to the form of dancing in the second line of a jazz funeral procession. Death is not an end but a beginning so traditional funerals are celebrated with a procession of people dancing behind the musicians, women with white umbrellas.
You can do a rendition of the king cake with a gold baby jesus buried in it.
Google `mardi gras theme party` or ball or masquerade and you`ll get a lot of hits.

Oh, I just want to clarify that funeral procession. It isn`t so morbid as it sounds. It`s a celebratory thing, and some weddings I`ve been to had that second line at the end, one did it as a send-off to the bride and groom. This procession is where the other post was referring to the `umbrella dance`, where women have little white umbrellas and they bob it up and down.
