Deprovera

I took Deprovera when I was 37 because I was done having children. I loved not getting my period but it made me extremely moody. I was on the shot for 3 years and after I went off the shot it took a year and 3 months for my period to return. Once it returned my bleeding was heavier than normal and I now have cycles approximately every 15 days!!!!! I do not recommend this to anyone who wants to have children especially.

I am 27 and have been getting the dep. Shot for 10 years now. I love that I NEVER have periods or PMS. I have gained over 50lbs. In the last 10 yrs. No one in my family is even remotely overweight -- only me. I knew weight gain was a side effect, but I didn`t realize how many people were gaining so much weight until reading the posts. I am a very active person, always on the go and I do exercise - so maybe it is the shot causing me to gain weight and not just my genetics. I have also had a lot of mood swings over the years. I`ve been married 4 years and my husband just blames my swings on me being a drama queen -- but maybe these feelings I have frequently are from the shot. I also have a lack of desire for intimacy...and haven`t desired it in years. I just thought all of this was me as a person - but maybe it`s the dep. I`ve been getting for all these years! I have been looking into other forms of contraception. Last wk I tried the patch and that made me so incredibly ill, I had to stop. I am going to try the new Ring that is out. My Dr. Said that I can use it steadily w/out taking a break from it for a week for my menstral cycle - since I really don`t want a period. But for your situation, maybe you can look into the Ring. With Dep. It can take up to 2 yrs. To get pregnant once you stop, with the ring I`ve read that it can take around a month. So, something maybe you can look into, since your husband is ready for a family.
