Advise On Addressing Invitations
I need advise!
Our wedding is small (35 guests) and rather informal. I am making our invitations on the computer and I have read that the envelopes should be addressed by hand. I would like to do the envelopes on my computer as my hand writing is not very nice. What is the best thing to do?
Thanks,
Sandie

I am sending out over 100 invites. If I had to hand write every one of them I`d never get them done by the date of the wedding. I think it`s perfectly acceptable to print the addresses. I bought clear labels and they just stick to the pretty envelope that I`m sending the invites in. Who cares whether you get a hand written invite or not? Would you be offended if you got one that was printed? I wouldn`t be. Good luck with everything.

According to ettiquette you should hand write every invitation. It shows your guests that you care. I am doing it for 50 invitations. I know people that have done it for 600 invitations. It doesnt take that long if you pace yourself. Many people do print them, but i think its a little lazy

I think doing them on a printer is just fine. A friend of our, who is a prosperous doctor, did his daughters on the computer. It used to be that things had to be hand written, but not anymore due to computers and what they can do.

I am inviting 100 people to my wedding. I printed everything, including the names on the response cards. My future brother in law sent out his invites and noone is writing who is coming on the response cards and they are not return addressing them. Now he has to call them and find out who wanted what.

It is absolutely fine to use your computer. Anyone who says otherwise, well, they`ve yet to enter the 21st century. Yes, traditional ettiquette says that you should hand write them, but if your handwriting is crappy, it is far nicer to to use a fancy font that looks like handwriting rather than writing them yourself and having them be unlegible. The thing is, if you are going to do it on the computer do it right. Don`t do it to save time, do it to look nice. Print DIRECTLY on the envelopes, etc. And use a font that is modeled after handwriting such as lucida handwriting or the more elegant Monotype Corsiva (my personal choice for this such occasion). This keeps the elegance and personal time and effort that shows you care, while still allowing you to use the computer. Any basic deskjet(inkjet) printer will allow you to set it up so that you can print any specific size paper or envelope so that you get each one perfect. To do this go to file, page setup on the program you are using. Click on paper (this is usually one of the tabs at the top of the window) and it will give a list of preset paper sizes including A2 envelopes which are pretty common for do it yourself wedding invites, or you can set the width and height to whatever the exact dimensions of your paper product are. To make sure that the paper stays straight as it prints push the tab on the tray over so it is lined up with the edge of your envelope/paper (this is the tab that is usually to the left side and closer in towards the printer. Hope this helps. I appologize if I went into too much detail but not everyone knows much about computers and printers so this is for anyone who needs the help. Good luck everyone.

Traci, I know that you say to print them directly on the envelopes, however this can be time consuming feeding each envelope in one at a time (if you don`t have a computer that will stack them). I just bought clear labels and printed them and then stuck them to the envelope. They really look nice because they blend in with the envelope and it was awesome to be able to print out all the addresses at one time.
