Shower Gift Plus Wedding Gift????

If invited to a bridal shower and give a gift, is it in lieu of a wedding gift?? does the bride get a shower gift and a wedding gift???

Normally you would bring a small gift to the shower (maybe a gift certificate for lingerie, or some small kitchen knick knack) and then you would give a seperate wedding gift. But of course only spend what you can. Your girlfriend would rather have you come to her shower and wedding without bringing gifts than to not have you come at all.
