Losing Weight

Anyone interested in forming a web group of brides-to-be for those wanting to take off a few pounds before the wedding? I don`t believe in magic pills and powder mixes. I do believe in strength in numbers! I`ll look into starting up a chat group for support if anyone is interested!

Exercise! Eat sensibly! Don`t diet. I tried for 10 years to loose 20lbs by dieting. I`d loose 6, gain 5, loose 5, gain 6, etc etc etc forever. Then I bought some free weights (5lb and 8lb) and started walking 1 hour everday ( I used my lunch 1/2 hour and two 15 minute breaks while at work), then doing the free weights and squats for about 20 minutes a couple of nights a week and in 6 months I lost 10lbs, total 20lbs over 1 year. The only change in my diet was I stopped eating fast food!!!!!!!! No more McD, no more BurgKing, no more KFC, no more TacoBell. Small sacrifice, that food is crap! I still eat everything else as long as it is not too unhealthy. So my advice is use your wedding date as a goal but keep this commitment lifelong!

I did SlimFast in January and lost 17 pounds. I started the Atkins diet in February. My weight went up and down by a few pounds every week! I thought this diet was so ineffective for me. Other people have lost 20-25 pounds in one month. Why wasn`t I losing any weight??? I got schooled on it by my pharmacist. It is not a matter of actually losing weight. It is a matter of how your body burns the fat that is already in your body. It`s all about glucose, carbohydrates, etc. It`s very boring stuff but if you understand it, it all makes sense. Stop eating sugar and white flour. Simple as that. Stay under 20 carbs per day. Your body will start becoming slimmer. You may not see results on your scale, but the results will be seen on a tape measure. Your body will become smaller. The weight will eventually follow. It is a "diet" that you will need to follow for life, not just a couple of months. It is difficult not eating what you used to eat. You must read labels. I`m not saying it`s easy. Not eating bread is just about killing me!!! Not having fare is not easy. But, I just keep looking forward to that wedding dress NOT being a plus size!

I know that the atkins diet is a huge rage today and a lot of people are trying it. However, i just want to put out a warning to you guys that most nutritionists would tell you to stay away from it because your body does need carbs. There is a better way at looking at it. There are good carbs and bad carbs. Bad carbs come from refined products such as refined sugar and white flour. The best thing to do (and there have been studies that showed that weight loss was actually more when bad carbs were cut out verses cutting out all carbs) would be to look online for charts of food and their glycemic index (this is what helps you determine if its a bad or good carb, most charts come with an interpretation to help you understand it), or you can follow the basic guidelines that if it is whole grain, whole wheat (not whole wheat flour, but plain ol` whole wheat) and if it is natural sugars such as in fruit verses refined such as in sweets, it is okay to eat. You`ll know if something is hight in whole grain or whole wheat by looking at the list of ingredients if it is high in it, than it will usually be the first ingredient listed. Also following this and cutting out fatty foods is supposed to really work well, basically it all comes down to eating foods that are good for you, not processed and refined. Of course changing your diet must also be accompanied by excercise and beware of any so called diet that says you`ll lose ten pounds in one week, it is unhealthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds a week (unless you are highly overweight in which you may shed more a week) and if you are losing at a faster rate chances are it won`t remain that way. I too would like to lose weight, but rather than view it as losing weight i`m going for I want to be healthy, i have no number in mind that i want to lose or size i want to fit in. I am simply trying to eat healthier and excercise regularly so that i can live a long and happy life, try focusing on doing good for yourself instead of the negative view that i`m not good enough and need to lose weight, it will help you stay more positive and more encouraged and motivated.

Hi ladies! Congratulations to all who have lost weight, are losing weight, those who have been working out regularly and those who are just beginning! It`s such a wonderful idea to have a message board for brides trying to loose weight. I`m getting married in September and am determined to look my best.

I`ve tried so many different things to loose weight and have found nothing better than just simple exercise and watching not so much what I eat, but how much and how often.

I tried Slimfast with no results other than constant hunger. I have tried the Atkin`s diet twice. The first time it lasted for 2 weeks. I lost 20lbs but gained 10 of it back. The second time I lasted for a month and a half and lost 25 lb but gained 15 of that back after I stopped. I do not bash the Atkin`s diet, it is just very restrictive and at the time I didn`t have much will power to stick to it. I thought there has to be an easier way! (Just a quick note, if you do decide to try the Atkin`s diet, please buy the book first so you know how to do it properly. You only stay at 20 carbs or less for 2 weeks. Any longer to that is very bad for your health)

Soooo, I found something that at first seemed so much harder than dieting, EXERCISE! AH! I joined a gym and have been working out for the past three months, 2 with a personal trainer. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and alternate which days I either lift weights of do 45 minutes of cardio. You know, I have only lost 6lbs so far and hate it every time I get on the scale. But guess what? I tried on my dress.... And have to have it taken in 2 sizes! And I lost 2 1/2 inches in the first month off of my waist! :)

I have also stopped eating such LARGE portions. And I make sure I eat breakfast EVERY morning and don`t eat anything at least two hours before I go to bed. My biggest problem was probably the portions, I would eat till I felt like I`d burst. I once read in a magazine that it takes your brain 10 minutes from the time you are full to actually tell your body you are full. Which means you eat for 10 minutes more than you need to before you get that icky uncomfortably stuffed feeling. I don`t know if it`s true, but I stop eating when I don`t feel HUNGRY anymore and wait at least 5 minutes. If I`m still hungry I eat a little more, but if I`m not I stop.

Oh my goodness! So my LONG story short (I rammble) be more active, eat smaller portions, and stop eating when you are not hungry. The pounds aren`t quite gone but let me tell you the inches sure are! Good luck to all on losing that weight!

I`ve lost 12 lbs. In about 2 months by doing weight watchers. The meetings are really supportive and I`m learning how to make better choices that I can use for the rest of my life.
