Invitation Etiquette And Mailing

I have two questions. First, when addressing the inner invitations envelopes, do you list the names of all the members of the family--example, Bill, Jane, Sue and Jim. My daughter disagrees with me. She says that you put Bill, Jane, and family. I do not think that this is the proper way. I always thought that the outer envelopes were addressed to Mr. And Mrs. Bill Smith and family (example) and the inner envelopes should recognize each member of the family. Also, exactly when or how far in advance do invitations need to be mailed. Thanks.

Yes, the inner envelope should list each persons name that you are inviting. If the children are over 16, they should receive their own invitiation. The outter envelope should read: Mr. & Mrs. Bill Smith. You do not need to include family on the outter envelope.

Invitations are generally sent out 6-8 weeks in advance. The benchmark is: 6 weeks for in-town guests, 8 weeks for out of town guests. If the wedding is around a holiday (ie, mid December, close to Xmas), I`d even go up to sending them out 10 weeks in advance due to the crazy Holiday season.

Good luck and congrats!
