Reception In School Gym

My fiance and I plan on having our reception in his high school gym in June 2005. We are concerned about the heat (we live in NE) and also about costs of decorating. We`ve looked at gossamer, prom supplies, etc...any other ideas to lower the ceiling and drape off the sides without breaking the bank?! Thanks!
