Getting Married In Kelowna

I am from Kelowna BC, and I am getting married this year and I was just wondering if there is anyone that knows of the best area to get married at Waterfront Park by The Grand Okanagan Resort, or anywhere near the water where we can also get pictures done at the same time.........

Thanks

Hi Jen, My name is Sarah, I also live in Kelowna, I`m getting married next summer. I would recommend for waterfront park, several locations. There is a gazebo on a slight incline that is covered with wisteria. It is quite beautiful in the summer. Also you could consider the waterfront stage. Or the bird sanctuary on one of the larger wharfs. I would definatly get pictures on the rounded board walk (that`s where we are going to get ours done). You could also consider getting some pics or having the ceremony at Kasugi gardens, it`s just across the street from Rose`s pub behind city hall. Or, if you are looking at a sweeping view of the city, mountain offers nice views too.

Hi Sarah

Congrats on getting married next year, when is the big day... I am getting married on the labour day weekend, but we choice friday because it is also our 7 year anniversary and another thing is everything is not booked up for that day... LOL..... We have a slight change of plans i think, seeing that it is the last day of summer there might be a lot of people around that area, chinese bus tours, or maybe a big event so I think we might go up to knox mountain to have the ceremony, and then there is alot of parking and no need to put money in to parking meters... We then might come down for the pictures to be taken at the waterfall in waterfront park, or the japanese gardens.. But then again we rented a limo and we have it for an hour after the ceremony, so I dont want to waste some of that time, so i am not sure what we are going to do... I need help so if you think you might be able to help this confused bride to be, please email me.........

Thanks again Sarah

Hi Jen.
You need to post your email address for me to be able to get a hold of you that way, but here`s my thoughts. I think Friday is a great day to get married, it`s a big money saver, plus, because the day has special meaning for you, it will make it even more special. I do have to agree about the bus tours, as there are a lot in that area of downtown during the summer months. I always loved knox mountain for a wedding site. It`s beautiful, gorgeous views, and affordable (just make sure to get a permit from city hall). Do you know where your reception site is going to be? We`re going to have ours at Parkinsons rec centre just because it is close to home and since we are making our own food to save money, it will be easier for transporting it. What kind of a budget do you have? We are working on a very small budget, and I have some ideas that I have done to save money. However, I also have some ideas if you have the money to spend. My finacee and I are going to be married June 10, 2006. We will have been together for 5 years when we get married. We decided on a long engagement because I am in school right now and money is tight so we thought if we waited until after I was done school that we would have less stress by doing things spread out and without the mad rush. So far, that plan has worked quite well. I have a lot of research, and some of my supplies so far. Just a tip, to save money, the internet is great. Go onto ebay, I got my veil there for only 10 dollars, where as I saw one in town that was similar for almost 150. One thing I would look into, you can get this info at city hall, is what events are going on in the city that day? Keep in mind, being a long weekend, let alone the last one of the summer, there will be a lot of people coming in and out of the city. I would suggest staying away from anywhere near the bridge, as you may find yourself using all your limo time waiting to get to your destination. Or, you could always have your reception and your ceremony at the same place. There are so many decisions to make and I understand how overwhelming it can be. Just remember the meaning for the day, and don`t be afraid to ask for help, and it all will come together. Again, if you need any help or advice, just ask some specific questions about what you want to know
We brides have to stick together.

Hi Sarah

Sorry it took me so long to post my email for you , but here it is ttandj@telus.net.. My mind is in a mad daze.... It is still 8 months ahead but there is never to much time.... Well like you were saying about the internet getting all your supplies and stuff, I dont need to use it, but thank you though. Seeing that I have my veil which came with the dress, that I got xmas morning. We are going to make our own invitations, we are going to buy a stamp made from a company in kelowna, all we need is the paper and the idea we want to put on the invitations. We really think that we are going to get married at Knox Mountain, I am going to call city hall today and go to the Parkinson rec Centre to find out certain areas we can and cannot get married. I think I got most of it figured out, I am right now in the process of listen to songs for our first dance of a married couple. I also need one more song and that will be the song that I dance with my father. We are planning to come back to our house after the ceremony and cut the cake and do our first dance I think at Knox Mountain, looking over Kelowna, I think that will be so romantic. The only thing is I am not sure where we want to get pictures done, my mom suggested maybe doing the pictures in our back yard. My mom loves to garden and we will alreayd have the flowers planted for the bouquets, which we are going to make ourselves also. So she said why dont we take the pictures in the back yard, which i think is a good idea, but we really want to have pictures by a waterfall. We are going to get a friends brother in law to take the pictures, and that will make it much cheaper, seeing that we are on a small budget also.... We want to make it memorable not expensive, and that is what counts. To spend time together and with the people we love and cherish.

So I hope to hear from you soon, email me at ttandj@telus.net

All this talk about getting married in Kelowna is making me home sick. Knox Mountain will be so beautiful. You`re very lucky. The japanese gardens would be a nice place for photos. One thing to remember when you have your photos taken is to enure that you are standing in the shade (if it is sunny) as the cross light can be rather harsh if you`re in direct sunlight. If it`s overcast you can have photos taken anywhere because there is no direct light. Congrats and good luck.
