Young Couple With No Money!! Please Help!

My fiance and I are both very young- he is in the military and 21, and I am an 18 year-old full time sophomore in college. Needless to say, we have NO MONEY! Our parents will help, but his don`t have much money to spare (4 kids left in the house!) and mine are spending all of thier money on my education. I need some cost-cutting ideas for a simple, but elegant daytime wedding next May. I don`t even know where to start! How much are churches? Reception sites? Do we HAVE to have a meal catered? Or could we just do snacks (and fancy them up a bit, of course)? I don`t know anything about planning a wedding, and his parents and mine both eloped! (Which is a possibility that we are not ruling out!) Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I totally understand what you are going through. I am 20 and am about to be married for the first time. I have just alittle bit of advise to help you I have done nothing, but research since I became engaged. First off relax if you love him and he loves you then anything is possible. Next try getting married in a public place I am getting married at the local landing. 26.50 that`s it to rent the park for the day. Next check into local stores for a dress alot of time a year David`s Bridal has their 99 dollar sale on dresses. Next have a friend to your hair and make-up. If the wedding is outside to create pretty pictures have the groom wear khaki pants. Keep the wedding small and simple. If you have it between 2/4 or after 7 cake and punch is perfectly fine. As far as pictures go have friends and family take them. Enjoy! I hope that maybe this helps some.

Look on ebay - you can find great deals on wedding gowns and everything else. We found the brides maid dresses under $50.00 - new never worn - from a bridal shop going out of business - the colors were right. The sizes were a little off - but we are having them altered - no problem. Go to your local dollar tree or stores for flowers etc. Go to Michael`s Craft store, you can find lots of ideas. , they have silver cake knife & srver for 12.95 ingraved, wedding flute glasses ingraved $9.95 wedding throw personalized $34.95. These are all nice - I ordered them for my son`s wedding last week - they were at my house in about 5 days. I was very pleased with the quality. I also ordered frosted glass wedding votive candle holders that were personalized for the tables (12) $7.95. The bride to be and my son was very pleased. If you have enough time just buy a few things each week - you will wind up with everything you need. Also shop target - I bought silk flowers clearanced, the guest book, brides garter, rose petals, and candles - they are all nice. I have shoopped at all the bridal shops around town (I live outside Atlanta) so we have many shops, the items I have purchased are the same quality you find in these shops - you just don`t pay the large price.
I hope this is helpful, I understand wanting this day to be beautiful and it can be on a tight budget. It does take time and a little effort but it is worth it in the long run. Good luck.

What size do you wear? I have two gently worn gowns I am willing to sell at a good price. I have a Jessica McClintock, size 5 and a designer Paloma Blanca, size 6. If you would like to see pictures, email me at goolsbys38562@yahoo.com

Hi I have the same problem you do. Im 18 and he`s 20
You could be married in a public place or in your familys back yard. You can make your own centerpieces by coing to walmart and getting some small flowers and a glass bowl and putting a floating candle in it. You can also make a very inexpensive vail by getting lace and the fabrick from walmart. I`ve done all of this and it works great. Im getting married in May also and i live in GA. I getting married at a place called Praters Mill its a historical place from the 1800`s its beautiful and it only cost us 35.00. And your dress troubles you can go to Davids Bridal they will let you finance a dress with no money down.

Get lots of magazine!! i have found that to be my best resouce for cutting cost. I am choosing not to serve food inside just meat tray and veggie trays that saved me 4000! Pick a place that has packages that way you can save big. I got a place that includes everything all i need is a photo, invites, alchol(friiends will pay), and my bouquet and girls flowers thats it! For $4000. My mom gave us $2000 and rest we pay its just $300 a month to save for (xtra 50.00 for just in case) Feel free to email me. Good Luck!!

I too am in the same situation, I have decided to go back to school. I spoke to a woman who gave me some wonderful inexpensive suggestions. Have your wedding in the evening, and serve nibblies instead of a dinner, have each woman guest bring a flower for your bouquet. Have it outside by candle light and have the guests stand with candles for extra light. These are just a few of the things that she suggested to me. Good Luck
