UK Citizen Marrying US Citizen
Hi
Can anyone give me advice please. I`m an English person going to the US in April and hoping to get married in June, in the U.S,. To my American boyfriend. Do I need any papers of any description before I can do this? Also Will I have any problems staying in the country once I`m married? Thanks.

Do you live in the UK? If so - Check with your local registry office, They will hopefully be able to give you advise. You will likely need to provide a UK Certificate of No Impediment. This costs £30 from your registry office and declares that you are not already married and are ok to married. If you have been married before you will have to have your decree absoute.
Check with the person marring you in the US to find out if they need anything else from you. I would also contact the British Consulate in the nearest town to where you will be marrying.
Hope that helps, Barbara

Hi, I`m in a similar situation to you. I want to go over to the US in March and marry my US girlfriend in May. Do you need one of these `fiance visas`? Or can you just go and get married, providing you have the proof from a registry office that you are free to be married (or in my case my divorce documents from my previous marriage)?
Regards,
Paul

I am a French citizen who recently married in the US a US citizen. This is what we did: my fiance applied for a K-1 visa (fiance visa) with the USCIS in the us. Then the file was transferred to the London Embassy (where i lived). Then the Embassy sent me a letter and a pack to complete. Once returned, they asked me to come for an interview and a medical and issued me with the K1 visa. This visa is valid for 6 months. Once you enter the us, you have 3 months to get married. ONce married, you need to apply for adjustment of status and following an interview you will get a temporary green card.
I have done lots of search on the subject and i know that it is illegal to enter the us with intention to get married and stay there without applying for a visa beforehand.
Hope this has helped!
