Not So Formal Wedding Dress
Hi:
This is my second wedding. I am getting married in June 2004 and I do not want to wear white. I would like something nice but not formal. We are probably getting married outside in Tahoe, CA. Right now I`m a size 20 but hoping to be down to at least a 16. Any ideas of where to start looking or styles? (I`m not a real big shopper.)

One of the tips that I offer my Brides who want something not so formal and very affordable is to check out `bridesmaids` dresses. You can get a variety of great styles, and they are very inexpensive. You have great color choices, too. You can go with ivory, champagne, shades of pink, lavender, silver...anything you like! If you find a bridesmaid gown you would like to order, check with us first. We may be able to order it at a great discount. That way, you save the maximum amount of money!

There are lots of great non-"wedding-gown" styles out there! Have some suggestions, but couldn`t send you the pics quickly.
For instance, as a 1st-time bride of 43, 5 yrs ago, I found a 2-pc pattern: loose, flowing long tunic top over an ankle-length skirt. Bought 2 matching silk fabrics ~ 1 opaque, 1 shear ~ in shades ranging from golds through oranges to reds. Together, my mother & I sewed my outfit.
Anyway, if you don`t sew, shop in non-bridal shop stores ... Perhaps boutiques. I`m thinking of some dreamy Asian-style dresses, mid-calf or ankle-length, w/ lots of flowing/draping lines.
As to color, do a little search-engine research on "wedding colors". Reds signify "good fortune" in Asian lands. You`ll likely find wedding symbolism for nearly any color you choose. Be sure to include info such as this in Guest Programs, to include your family & relatives in this choice.
