Here are the tips that my wedding planner gave me on this subject:

For the photographer:

Come up with a list of the photos that you must have professionally taken. (small list) Negotiate with a photographer to come and take only those photos. Then rely on a talented friend or family member to take the less important photos. We are having a pro photographer come in and take 12 photos. (12 moments that we only want done professionally) Then, my brother has agreed to take the rest of the photos. I can`t wait!

For the dj, the price quotes we got were just too high. We found a dj that agreed to just stay for 2 hours instead of 4. That way we can cut the cost by a bunch, and still have a few hours of dancing at the reception. When the dj leaves, we have 6 cd`s of music that we have made that we will be popping into a 5 cd changer stereo to keep everyone entertained for the remainder of the reception when we really don`t need anyone to be doing announcements and things anyway.

Hope this helps! I know it helped save me lots!

Suggestions for a cheaper way to do photography:

Go to a university or collage campus and advertise for photography students. They need to money and will likely do it for a little cheaper. You get your photography and they get some professional experience and something for their portfolio. This is what we are doing to cut down on our costs.

I would suggest for a videographer to have a family member or friend do it. You can then have it assembled later by a professional on a tape or dvd.

I would also go for prerecorded music for the reception if you are on a tight budget. Just be forewarned though you may have to pay a can fee to the place where your reception is. This goes to the music company`s since the music played needs to get royalties. This can be looked into prior to your visit.
Hope this helps. Sarah

Why don`t you try looking for students at your local college? Most student photographers do a very decent job. Just ask to see some of their work.
