Halloween Wedding

I am really happy to hear that other people are planning a halloween wedding. We have found a great barn location and are smoothing out the details of the location and "costumes"....Good Luck to all the other couples. My only concern is to try and make the event not TACKY. Even though we feel it`s the way we like it...we have to think of our families...many feel this is not an appropriate day (not Holy) Any suggestions?

My neice got married 11/01/02 and her wedding turned into a halloween party! About halfway through the wedding, boxes of halloween paraphanalia was brought out and everyone got to choose something. It was a good selection of masks...nothing stupid and boring! The girls in the bridal party had blinking red horns on their head and came out to "The Monster Mash"! It was the best wedding ever - we`re still raving about it!

Kerri,
That party/wedding sounds like alot of fun...those are also some great ideas (especially for those who might not wear a costume to the reception)
Thanks for the ideas!

There was an episode on a wedding story where the couple chose a halloween theme and the groomsmen were dressed in tuxes with cape to look like dracula, some had the fang teeth, etc. And the bridesmaids were dressed as witches, they had on black bridesmaids dresses with pointy hats and the make up and everything and it turned out to be really neat, wasn`t freaky or anything like that, it looked like a lot of fun and the guest were dressed in halloween costumes. It is a very neat thought for someone who likes that kind of thing, I am getting married in June of this year but am sticking with the traditional wedding because I don`t really celebrate halloween but it can be done and very tastefully. Good Luck to those who are gonna have that theme!

My own feeling is that it sort of draws the attention away from the real purpose of the day and gives it a whole `nother focus.

My other concern is that guests coming in costume may have masks or makeup, whereas you can`t see their faces. Years from now, when you look through your photo album and/or your video you probably won`t remember who was who at your wedding. To some that may not be important. To me, seeing the faces of my loved ones celebrating my wedding day is important.

I`m not saying not to have a Halloween wedding. I`m just saying to keep certain things in mind while you plan.

Halloween is the time when the Celtic peoples would honor their ancestors, so it would be appropriate to put a section into the ceremony to elaborate on this. Below is a rough idea:

As the future comes from the past perhaps you could ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on your parents, their parents, and so on, as far back as the stories you have heard and beyond. The very reason that you and your beloved know how to give and recieve love is a direct result of the love you were shown by your mother and father as you matured into the people you are today. And so it was with their parents before and on and on in an unbroken chain of love and support. Where we come from is important to who we become and maybe light a candle in tribute to all those who have gone before.... Maybe even all those yet to come to bring up the tone.

Just a thought!

I posted the reply of my neice getting married on 11/01/02 which turned into a "Halloween party". It was a traditional wedding - no one came in costumes! When the box of halloween stuff came out (it was only masks) the people took one and wore it. The bride had a white feather boa and a glittery masquerade mask (the kind of a stick). I guess I should have clarified that. Nothing was tacky or in bad taste.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your input....we just wanted to say that our wedding is going to great no matter what and in regards to pictures of people in masks and such....we are happy to say that the ceremony won`t have any of this and it is more of a celebration style wedding (we are both of Irish decent) and this is going to be similar to those celebrated by other Celtic people of the past (especially the Halloween aspect). We do realize that some might find this strange but, after all We are the ones getting married not anyone else. Thank you though for the aspect of others opinions...it deffinately helps us greatly!

I just did a Halloween wedding this past year and they are an absolute blast. Go ahead and do it; it is your wedding. Just be considerate of any guests that have small children. This couple had pumpkins around and the kids could trick or treat each table at the reception. Also, you may want to have your photographer do your engagement or bridal portraits in B&W or even an antique sepia tone. Hope this helps and good luck!

My daughter is planning a halloween wedding. We are trying to find cake toppers but to no avail. If anyone knows a good site to research I would appreciate the tip.
