Hav U Guyz Heard Of Model Search America?HELP
I was talking to my friend and she was telling me that tomorrow she was gonna go to this Model Search. And she was all like "Why dont u come?" And i was like "ok". She said that I should go because im "skinny". But I dont think that I have the right "look". Im female, brown eyes, medium brown hair, weigh around 95 lbs., my height is only 5ft! Im 13 years old about to turn 14 in April. And eventhough Im mexican I have pale skin! (THANX TO MY GREAT GRANDFATHER!). And I think my friend is cuter than me plus she has had modeling experience (just alittle). My friend has light brown hair, it looks like tanned skin, big eyes (my eyes are kinda big too), she`s a good height and a nice build. I think Im gonna go with her but I feel insecure and nervous cuz I`VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE!

This may be a little long but I would like to share my experience. I had trouble finding websites to post on but people should know what is going on w/ these "modeling-scouting conventions". I was curious about an open call in my area so I decided to attend--at the time I was 21 w/ a very skeptical attitude. I still hold that attitude and wished I would`ve followed it then. I will lay out how it happened.
-I attend open call and WOW...they choose me along w/ 50% of the attendants. I am given the details, costs, and reassurance that they have excellent standing w/ BBBureau--they have very inspiring speakers. I am given just a few days to make an impulse decision as to if I will go. My destination was Atlanta and it would cost approx $500 to attend PLUS hotel costs, travel costs, etc.--- It was stressed that family support is necessary to be selected so bring the whole family at a cost of 100$ per person. Thank goodness I was traveling alone.
- I decide that I should not pass up this opportunity /experience because i"ll regret it one day so I dish out the $$......I then have to get some professional pics which I`d never done before. I bring the bare minimum with me.
-The time has finally come for the convention. I arrive at a beautiful hotel (Atleast one thing was worth the money) and get ready for the seminars. While signing in, etc. I see a beautiful girl walking around being introduced as their newest model that was selected by doing what we were doing.
- Day one. Seminars begin (mostly informing us of common sense issues). They eventually get to the stuff I wanna know. How to walk, stand, etc.--but I only get to learn this if I pay more money...if not I get a few hours to myself while "everyone else" learns the correct way. I was heartbroken to see little kids crying b/c their parents couldn`t afford to pay for the class. I choose to travel the streets of Atlanta. Suprisingly, when I get back to the hotel, all of the attendees that paid were waltzing around the hotel "squeezing their buttocks". Parents were not looking impressed. I finally felt I did something right. The next seminar discussed how you are presented to the "big agents" and what catagories are available. Good luck on your big day tommorrow! Enjoy tonight`s dance party and be good b/c important people may be there!"
-the dance is not exciting at all whatsoever if your over 18. I unfortunately sat at the bar drinking w/ the mothers, discussing what a big scam this seems to be. I decide to enjoy my stay so I go out. ?Maybe that`s why I`m not a model these days? Maybe those important people saw me?
-The big day. My big chance lasts less than 10 minutes! I speed walk holding my picture in front of only half the number agents they said they`d have. I then get to walk in a straight line on the stage to the agents. This is when I hear the best statement throughout my whole trip. "don`t think that the agents did not see you...if you pass w/ your pic and their head is down they may be writing something about you"...hmmm...I think more than a few may have actually been sleeping. After this incident I decide to spend the rest of my trip checking out the city. I arrive just in time to hear if they will call my number. I befriended a nice woman and her 13 yr. Old daughter while I was there. Her daughter got called. I didn`t. They were apologizing but I told them I was really okay w/ it (and I was). I later found out that the woman would have to dish more money to go to other agents and conventions! I happily declined my invitation to attend the convention again for ONLY HALF PRICE!
I am glad I went b/c I would have never known (just like they say at the open call) but I should have just kept my $500 and enjoyed the city. I was hurt when I was going back to my room and saw little girls everywhere crying b/c they thought they were not beautiful. They were to young to understand what was going on, and the parents were realizing what a mistake they had made by doing this. Once again, sorry this was so long but people should know what to expect.
Any questions or comments email me
P.S.--I looked at the BBBureau recently and NYMC is no longer w/ good standing...it also seems they conveniently change business names so beware.
