Tattoo Cover-Up
I am thinking of wearing a strapless dress for my upcoming September wedding. The only problem is that I have tattoos on both shoulders and don`t really want my tattoos to show up in photographs. I have seen tattoo cover-up kits advertised in bridal magazines and on the internet, but I`m a little concerned about their performance. Most specifically, I am afraid that they will fade or smear. The last thing I need is to be smearing concealer all over my future husband and guests!
Does anyone out there have any experience with these types of products? If so could you give them a review?
Thanks

I am a ballet dancer and have used a product made by Krylon (?) to cover the tattoos on my legs. I have had good experiences with this- however after the product is applied I have always had tights over it so I am not sure how it would work with all of the hugs at the wedding. You can find it at www.discountdance.com

Hello,
I never used the tattoo concealment but my cousin has. She would testify to it working very well, it does not fade or smear. The only way for it to be removed is when you bath. My cousin has done different water activities while she was using it. Before you purchase the product ask questions first.
I hope this helps-:).

This is exactly why my one and only tattoo can only be seen if I want you to see it (on my personal region).... I made sure it was placed where I would never have to worry about.
I have an honest question though. I promise, I`m not being judgmental. I’m just trying to understand:
Why would you get a tattoo on your shoulders if you would ever be embarrassed buy it or want to conceal it? Your tattoo is a part of your personality. At one time you wanted to show the world. Why would you want to hide it now? I would think you are either happy with your decision to get one or you are not and a wedding day would not change that. It’s not like covering up a birthmark or pimple, or even wearing blue contacts over brown eyes, all things you have no control over. You chose a tattoo. You went to the parlor, paid lots of money, sat through tremendous pain. It was a huge effort on your part to make this a permanent part of your body. Why decide you need to conceal it now? I don’t believe it’s due to covering it up for a formal event, or you would have considered this when getting it.
Anyway, I’m just wondering and trying to gain insight. As an events planner, I’ve been asked about this before from brides and I don’t know how to answer them because I feel that they placed it there, live with it. I know this is a callous answer, but it’s really how I feel… right or wrong. I would never say this though because I realize it’s only my opinion.
So, can you help shed some light on this so that I may feel a bit differently about the situation?
Thanks!

You people need to lighten up. I get asked questions all the time and I have never once in my life told people they were wrong for asking. I truly don`t understand why she should want to cover it up and I truly want to know. Now she has the right to answer or not, but I have the right to ask anything I want. No one is wrong for asking any question. How else would you ask why would you want to cover it up?
People need to stop being so sensitive and stop being so PC. You will never learn about others or why or how they tick if you keep your head in the sand. I was legitimately trying to learn a little about human nature. Because I`m trying to broaden my thinking, I get told to shut up. I was honestly asking to be enlightened. I even stated that I know maybe I shouldn’t feel the way I do, can she help me understand. But it was you who chose to jump on me rather than answer an honest question to someone who is truly trying to learn something.
Maybe you should learn some etiquette instead of stifling people.

Dawn, you made a comment about people needing to lighten up, maybe you should read some of your own posts.
I think Erika`s point was not that you shouldnt ask questions, but simply ask them in a kinder way.
Kerri-Ann was asking for ways to cover up tattoos, not to have an essay written that would make her feel as though shes doing something wrong for covering her tattoo for her wedding day.
Why not just have said, "I know its not really my business, but i was wondering why you want to have your tattoo covered?"

Dawn,
I just think it is a personal preference of Kerri to not have her tattoo showing on her special day. I don`t think she is ashamed of it but she don`t want it to be shown on that day.
I also have a tattoo and I don`t want it to show so I asked my seamtress to design a dress that would cover it up. I don`t want it to show on my special day either but having it covered up for 6 to 8 hours does not reflect anything bad on Kerri`s part.
I don`t think your question was being judgemental at all but it was sort of harse in how you said it.
Kerri, hope everything goes well with you.

Dawn,
I will try my best to answer your question.
You are right, I chose to get the tattoo... I paid the money and went through the pain involved in the entire process. But I also choose not to show my tattoos on my wedding day. It has nothing to do with being embarrassed by them or ashamed by my decision to get them. On the contrary, I am very proud of my tattoos, since they all have special meaning to me.
That being said, the dress that I am planning to wear is elegant and dressy and I feel that my tattoos would detract from that image. Fortunately I am afforded the luxury of covering up my tattoos if I want to. My fiancee also asked that my tattoos not be in the pictures of our wedding day (and before that becomes an issue, no he is not ashamed of my tattoos because he in fact has some tattoos of his own). It is merely a personal preferrence.
However, I think that my decision to cover up my tattoos is not something that should be looked at like, "you chose to get them, so you should live with your decision." Because although I am happy with them, I can`t just make them go away whenever I want... I will be wearing cover up over them for a day because I would like the aesthetic affect... Just like someone would if they were to wear blue contacts over brown eyes because they can`t change their eye color. I don`t want to get rid of my tattoos, I just don`t feel like showing them on that day.

Good answer Kerri-Ann! I am in the same boat, and you couldn`t have said it better. I totally understand. My mom bought some cover-up off a website, but I haven`t tried it. If it works, I`ll let you know! I can`t remember the website or I would post it.

Try a product called Cover blend or Dermablend for tattoo coverup. I have bad acne scars and had tried everything to cover up. This is the only make up that works!!!! Good Luck

Melanie,
Is there a specific way you have used Dermablend to cover your scars? I use it on my face and it works very well. I didn`t know if you had any tattoos or not. I tried the creamier Dermablend products in a department store one day....and the lady could not get it covered. It covered, but it was obvious I was trying to cover it. I read somewhere the steps they suggest to use the colors so it cannot be noticeable, but forgot where I read that from. Just wondering if you have tried it on a tattoo also and got it to work! Thanks!

There is a product called Derma-blend that my sister used to cover up a tattoo of a black cat on her arm for my wedding. She got it at a department store (Strawbridges I do believe) and it was matched to her skin. You could not tell that she had a tattoo. It is water proof, smudge proof, and sweat proof. Regardless as to where you buy your cover up -- make sure that you look at the color under natural light when making comparisons to your skin. Remember that pictures might be taken outside and sometimes the lighting in department stores is not all that great. Hope this helps. Good Luck

I happened to catch an ad for Derma Blend, and found out it is sold at Elder Beerman. When I went to Elder Beermans to get it, they explained that they now sell Cover Blend. The lady told me it is the equivalent. I then made an appointment with her to get made over. I do not have any tattoos, but they advertise it working for that. I have old acne scars and I have to say this make up is great! The foundation is thicker than the norm, but with a sponge rather easy to use. It covers everything up. I would reccommend making an appointment with the make consultant at the store. Also; ask for samples to try at home. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! When the consultant tried it on me that day I went into the store, I don`t think there was a color she had that was light enough for my skin at the time. It did cover the tattoo, but was obvious that there was something there-the makeup didn`t blend into my skin. I just got something in the mail from my mom today, so will try it out!

I have the same problem, I am getting married in June and I am considering wearing a backless dress and have a tat down my back (no, I am not embarrassed, but I would prefer not to show my tat on such and elegant day.) I am also confused as to what is the best product. Due to my wedding in June (and outside) I need something that is smear proof, rain proof, heat proof, etc. If anyone has any other product please let me know. For those of you that did name a product, where can you purchase them? That store that was named earlier, I never heard of.

Hi summer
I am also getting married in june this year and i have a tattoo on the inside of my arm and also choose not to display it on my wedding day, but i have chosen to wear a jacket with my dress as its in winter and i am comfortable with that. But the product i used is linda seidel which you can by at a chemist or any drug store. Using the product depends on how dark, or what colours your tattoo is. The product is smudge, rain proof and doesnt rub off. I swear by it. And my tattoo is fairly large with black, red and green colours.
Good luck

Have you tried the product before? I have heard people talk about the product but I have not spoke to anyone that has tried it. I considered a jacket as well, however, my wedding is outside in Miami, Florida (way to hot). My tattoo is pretty large on my back and a bright green. I acyually emailed a dealer of cover blend to see if the product would work covering my tattoo, but I have this fear of it not working or rubbing on someone else.
