I Will Never Buy A Dress At David`s Bridal
I was shopping at a David`s Bridal on 10/25/03 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The wedding consultant (Jennifer) assigned to help me select and try on a wedding dress was rude and completely unprofessional. She insulted me and said that "dresses in plus sizes are hard to find." In additon, I was trying on a dress that was my size in wedding dresses, but she meagerly attempted to help me and said that "this dress is not going to fit you." The area outside of the fitting rooms was a disaster and I almost tripped on a tiera. When I tried to go over to a debris-free area with three way mirrors to get a full view of my dress, she told me that there wasn`t any room over there to look at dresses. I was completely insulted and unsatisfied by my visit to this store!

I went to david`s bridal in lansing michigan and was treated very badly. As soon as i walked in the door, i was rudely approached and told there was no appointements for that day. I said that was fine, i really didnt know you had to have an appointment just to look. I asked if i could just look and she acted very mad and said i guess. Needless to say i looked at a couple and was quite upset by the way i was treated as soon as i walked in, so myself, mother and bridemaids just left. Looking for a wedding gown is suppose to be exciting and fun and they ruined it from the minute i stepped in there door. They lost a lot of business that day and more because of word of mouth.

I have shopped at David`s Bridal in Charlotte, NC and have received the same treatment. In fact, I had an appt for my wedding and did still not receive individual attention. As far as I`m concerned, they are only good for shopping their clearance racks for formals. I`m a vocalist and get some great deals there on clearance items. But for personalized service, forget it.
It just proves, once again, you cannot have a large chain and expect good service. Wal-Mart, Kmart, Wendy`s, McD`s, all these had good service before going national. David`s Bridal is no exception.

Does anyone know who the distributor for David`s Bridal is? My bridesmaids want to get their dresses that they saw at David`s, but can`t afford to get it without payments, which David`s won`t allow. You have to pay it all within 30 days, before you can even order it. I have another salon who is willing to order the dresses if can find out who the distributor is. If anyone knows, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cindy, who is going to let your bridesmaids make payments on their dresses other than a credit card? Have them pay with credit cards and then they can make the payments every month on their bill. You really can`t expect the stores or distributors to accomodate monthly payments on the merchandise.

The store I am buying my wedding dress from has a $50 down payment, then work out payments each month policy. It`s a family owned store, not a chain. And a few of my bridesmaids don`t have credit cards. Not everyone uses credit cards, you know.

That`s good that you found a store that will do this. I just don`t know why you would expect David`s to do it. A small family business okay, but most places don`t. From all your posts about it you seemed like you were surprised or annoyed (or both) that Davids wouldn`t accomodate you on that.

Suzanne,
After doing some extensive checking around town and talking to at least 10 different bridal salons in town, it seemed that David`s was the only one that wouldn`t take some sort of payments. All salons I talked to would offer payments, and some did want 50% down on top, but would take payments after that. David`s has a 30 day layaway policy (1/2 down, 1/2 by 30 days after) and that is it, and all money must be received before they will even order your gown. Also, the other thing I found out was that all of the other stores include the vinyl bag for your gown in the price of your purchase, David`s charges for it. And several stores in town let you "rent" or borrow the hoop slip to go underneath a gown should it need it for free or minimal charge, but David`s you have to buy one for $60 minimum price. Also the other stores once they get your down payment, whether it is $50 down, or 50% down, they will put in the order after receiving that initial payment, not wait until all is received. I`m just glad that I took the time to check out the other stores, who are truly "about the customer". I`m not really surprised about David`s, just a bit curious as with all of the complaints and then the things that the other stores offer, that David`s wouldn`t offer some of the same things with out charging on every single little thing. But then again, they are only for the money they can make and that is sad. Maybe they have had so many complaints and had to pay out so much money for problems caused by them that they are so far in the red they have to charge for everything. The businesses that truly keep their customers happy and coming back for more or referring their friends are those that are truly all about keeping their customers happy.

Just curious where you live because I`ve never heard of these payment plans. Oh well, I`m glad that you have so many stores that are willing to do that for you.
I went into a Davids once and looked but I didn`t care for their gowns or their bridesmaids dresses. Probably a good thing considering all the complaints we hear about them.

I had the similiar experience and I am so new at all of this that I was nervous to begin with going with no kind of idea in a dress for myself. My mom and I went in there to look back in Syracuse, NY and the consultant was so rude to me and my mother plus they made me feel so rushed in trying on everything there. She dressed me up in things, turned around left, and then came back and did it again without really any comments. It turned me completely off and my mom and I both got her name and wrote to the company about it. I suggest for anyone going to a different bridal shop....there are plenty of ways to get discounted dresses. Or another suggestion if you like some of David`s bridal stuff is to maybe order it off the internet cuz it might be a little cheaper.............but I ended up after that experience going back to a smaller discount place and getting a beautiful wedding gown that was $900 discounted down to $450 and $575 for everything included my veil and headpiece in the end...NOT TOO SHABBY and I was so pleased with their services. So, I completely agree with David`s Bridal being horrible with customer service...wouldn`t recommend it to anyone really!

I just found this site while I was looking for ideas for my friends wedding. I think its great! Working in the bridal industry myself I hear many horror stories about David`s, so I thought I would share some to try to save anyone from going through a simular situation. David`s Dresses are "knock offs" from big name designers, they are not the same quality. They have a designer who coppies styles from other designers, then David`s will sell the "knock off" for about the same price you can get the original for at a different store because they are an older style, and they want to move their inventory. Please keep in mind that if you buy a dress from David`s just about every other bride in your area has tried your dress on too. A few brides have told me about the "great price" they got at one of David`s Big Sales, buy the time they paid for all the alterations, they didn`t get such a great price. Some brides have told me they paid hundreds of dollars for alterations, picked up their dress the day befor the wedding and absolutly nothing had been done to their dress and their was nothing they could do in the amount of time they had left. Almost every bride I talk to that has looked at David`s complained about the lack of service, and how rude the "consultants" were. One "consultant" told a bride that she needed to go to the gym! That was just so rude, and especially rude because she just had a baby! I think I have said enough, obviously I strongly advise all brides to shop some place other than David`s. There are plenty of discount stores where you will get original gowns off the rack, or specially ordered for you. Find a place with good service and better quality gowns. Good luck and have fun!

Courtney,
It`js nice to hear feedback about David`s from a fellow bridal industry person. I did find out through a series of phone calls that David`s designers are Michelangelo and someone else. And that supposedly they only design for "David`s Bridals". The store I am buying my dresses from now is calling her distributors seeing if they can get the dresses from the same "exclusive designers" and get my dresses at her store. What a coup that would be. It`s kind of funny because I called the 800 customer service # which is the main service # for all David`s bridals and where the warehouse is that they order your dress from. They told me that the dress had been discontinued already and there were none left, yet when I called the local store, they said it was still orderable and in stock. LOL! Now I know it`s not in stock, cause I looked the week before again. So I am curious as to if the local store is lying or what is exactly going on. I would think the warehouse would have the final say and if it`s in their computer it should be in all the stores too, so who knows? What a shoddy company. I`m so glad I found out before it was too late.

I also had a horrible experience at David`s Bridal. We stopped in to look at dresses for the first time and were escorted out because we didn`t have an appointment. When we did make an appointment we were told to look around and someone would let us into a dressing room. Why schedule an appointment for that?! It was just like a regular clothing store. When we did try on, no one bothered to see if we liked our selections or needed help. I was truly insulted. Wedding dresses are not cheap and I would appreciate a service that should go along with that type of a purchase!

I went to David`s this past Sunday just to look with my Mother and Sister and got the runaround. My sister advised that we never even go...and boy was she right. We were told the wait would be an hour and a half because we didn`t have an appointment. But we were invited to take a catalogue and make choices from that. We were not allowed to see the dresses in person until we were called. Two hours later, I went to the front to see what was going on and was told that we would have to reschedule for another day. They never attempted to page us to let us know this! I asked for my paperwork back so they won`t send me any garbage and told them that when people walk in they should be upfront and tell them that you can`t promise them a fitting room without an appointment. The front guy just acted dumb and shrugged. All I can say is I am glad that I found out about them earlier rather than later. David`s Bridal stinks!!!

I recently purchased my wedding dress from David`s Bridal, at a very affordable cost. Not only did I get great service from the women at the store, but I did it all without an appointment. In fact, we never made appointments when we went back to get my bridesmaid dresses either, and we were still greeted very warmly and given all the attention we could possibly want. All the women, not only my personal consultant, were extremely kind and helpful. Offering opinions, suggestions, and advice. My mother, my bridesmaids, and I were all very pleased with the service and have no complaints whatsoever.
Every store is different, I am sure, but my experience with David`s Bridal was fantastic and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anybody.

I had the same experience. I bought my dress at Davids VBridal and everything went fine. Sure, they might not be the same quality as other wedding dresses, but for the price, and only wearing it once, I DONT CARE!!
And I never had appointments either. I tried to go at non-busy times of day, though.
I think they are great.

I am in a friends wedding this upcoming June and had to order my dress by the end of last January (to be sure that it did not get discontinued). I think David`s is a scam when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. I am anticipating trying to get pregnant over the next few months was was told by David`s all I need to exchange my dress for size is the receipt and the dress. Let`s see how they try to screw me this time. Dont tell me that I need to by the dress by the end of Jan 2003 but you can then turn around in the next breath and tell me that you can get the dress from the warehouse or another store in another size if need be.

I too had a horrible experience at David`s Bridal in Tyler, Texas and vow to never shop there. I was immediately approached by a very unprofessional bridal consultant (as they call them) basically they`re just sales ladies with no professioinal ethics whatsoever. She told me I needed an appointment. I just wanted to look around, I had my mother there to help me look I didn`t need a "bridal consultant" too.

My experience with David`s Bridal was a nightmare! My mother and I went to David`s not realizing they sold used dresses. We were under the impression that everything was ordered brand new from the factory and were also told that while in the store and while ordering my dress. When an out of town friend went to David`s in her town she was told that none of the dresses are ordered from the factory, they are ordered from other stores, cleaned and given to you just like they`re brand new! I immediately called the store in Tampa, FL and asked if the dresses were ordered from a factory new! I was told yes they were. I told them what other stores were telling me and then they finally said that there was no guarantee that it didn`t come from another store where others had tried it on! Finding out that my dress could have been previously tried on by numerous smelly, sweatty, nasty girls, and that I had to walk down the aisle wearing a used dress pisses me off. It would have been one thing if I`d known what I was getting at the time of purchase, but of course all sales are final! One reason I chose David`s is because it is a chain and would be easy for my out of town bridesmaids. All the dresses had to be ordered thru the Tampa store so the dresses could be cut from the same die lot. The out of town stores did not help my bridesmaids at all. They wouldn`t call the store to place the order for them, the bridesmaids had to make long distance calls themselves. On top of that the out of town stores, once they realized they weren`t getting the sale they ended up giving the girls the wrong dresses to try on and order! David`s Bridal is a scam. They do not disclose to their customers what product they are really paying for. I believe that to be fraud! They need to advertise that the dresses you are ordering have been tried on before and are really coming from another store not the factory! The funny thing about this is that all the Bridesmaid dresses are cut at the factory so all the dresses match in color. The bridesmaids paid 1/5 the price of my wedding dress and theirs were new while mine was used!

Fortunately, my sister and I had a positive experience @ our local Davids store. Yes, I did have a set appt. Time (which I recommend with any store you are going to visit), and, from the time we walked in the front door to the time we walked out with my beautiful gown, we were treated with nothing less than professional courtesy and extreme patience (we all know how indecisive "brides to be" can be). The funny thing is I didn`t expect sooooooo much attention coming from a discount store. As far as the dresses being used?never heard that one before, but I am sure many girls have tried my gown on before I bought it. Anyone ever hear of a drycleaner????? You are paying alot less than you would at a smaller more personalized botique, so I am sure they have to have cutbacks some where. Comes down to this - if you don`t feel comfortable in the shop - go somewhere else!!!! But dont` think every David`s experience is a horrible one!
