50th Anniversary Buffet Reception - Program?
We are in the home stretch of our plans. My problem is with the flow of the evening. The party is to start at 7 and as it is a buffet, should we announce at 7:30-7:45 for the guests to start through the buffet line. At what point should our guest speaker begin? Should we develop a "program of events" to make things more organized?

Yes on all accounts. And have a printed program just like you would at a wedding.
Feed people before having a speaker start. Speakers can start during dessert. So, if it starts at 7, food should be ready to be served by 7:30-7:45. Allow 45 minutes for dinner, and then the real festivities begin. Gift opening is last.
Good luck!

We came up with what we think is unique. We printed on tabloid size paper our own newspaper style program.
The Anniversary Times
With a column titled "50 ways to 50 years" that has 50 highlights of their life listed.
And a column about the party and the events of the night - this is the program part.
And a column that is titled "the way it was" with news headlines and event news from Dec 1953.
