Please Help! Need Serving Personal At Wedding

I am getting married on the beach in Tampa bay, Florida, in four months. The reception and the dinner will be at the same site. Since both our families are gourmet cooks (not in restaurant business), we want to make our own food and just get a few food servers and a bartender. Any suggestions where I should begin to look?

Thanks

We almost have the same problem. We are catering it ourselves. Who should we get to serve it. (its a buffet style)

Nichole,

I found a couple of bartending service agencies in the phone book. Both are very resonable, $25-30 per hour per bartender. Basically, they provide personnels and we provide all the liqours.

I also went through a few temporary employee agencies in the phoe book who do "event staffing" and "service industry" and found it was quite easy to hire food servers. These agencies told me that they routinely send food servors to hotels and banquets. They told me that I can get just as good service through them as through catering companies if I offer to double the minimal wage, which is still cheaper than what catering companies charge in Tampa area. I am so relieved that I get to serve the food that our families make with love and pride to my guests on my wedding day. I am sure you know the feeling.

If you still are thinking about catering your own food, you may want to try what I did. I hope it works out for you.

Cathi, thank you for your advice.

Happy holidays, everyone!

It wouldn`t be "personal". It would be "personnel".

Nichole,

Another thought for you. When you are out at local restaurants, keep an eye out for quality servers. You could offer them a flat fee or an hourly rate. I would suggest finding out what the local minimum wage is for servers before you make your offer though.
