Wedding Gifts

I`ve heard that "proper ediquette" allows a gift to be given within 1yr of the wedding. I want to know the ediquette for giving a gift for someone (coworker) which you were not invited to the wedding. Is the gift optional since you did not attend and were not invited.
I have a coworker which has gotten married and reminded some of her coworkers that they have a year to buy a present. None of the coworkers were invited since it was a "spur of the moment" wedding.

Tony, if you are not invited to a wedding, there is no obligation to give someone a gift. Also, it is not proper etiquette of this co-worker to request gifts from people she did not (or even did invite) to her wedding. What she is doing is quite rude.

You always have the option to give her a gift even if you weren`t invited -- but that is totally up to you -- there is no obligation to do so.
