Roman Theme Ideas

My fiance and I are taking our honeymoon to Rome, Italy.
I would like to incorporate some roman features at my wedding like the greek columns with garlands decorating them and tulle swaying in areas. I do not have alot of ideas for wedding and reception. I want my invitation to give that sense of it also. Any suggestions would help.

Hi --

Here are some random thoughts ...

First, use the `net to research some (ancient or modern) Italian wedding elements to add to your ceremony. These might include some sharing of food and/or drink & other such personal Italian/Roman touches. Don`t forget to explain these customs in your Guest Programs.

Second, Greek columns don`t remind me of Rome, but Romanesque arches do! But how to include these in your wedding leaves me blank. Most commercial wedding trellises are in fact in that shape; but they won`t remind your guests of Italy ...

Third, if you don`t have your wedding attire yet, how about trying for something with a hint of "toga" to it? For both men & women, perhaps. You could even ask your guests to join in the fun, & dress up a bit.

(Note: we married in a Moroccan restaurant, so Walter wore a caftan of sorts that I made for him, while I wore a non-traditional 2-pc loosely draping red/orange/gold long skirt & top. Our guests were asked to dress fairly casually or in keeping w/ the theme.)

Fourth, can you include some related foods?

Fifth, assign each guest table a Roman/Italian theme. For instance, each might represent a city in today`s Italy: Sicily, Venice, Rome, etc. Then each alphabetically placed name-card on the name-card table would have something symbolic that linked with the same thing on the table. For instance, a gondola centerpiece on a table would be the drawing point for every guest having a gondola-shaped name-card.

Sixth, have your DJ or band play soft Italian-related music during dinner.

As said, these ideas are random.

Best of luck,
Bon
