Post-Elopement Party - Gifts ??

My fiance and I are eloping - but want to have a party when we get back. Is it appropriate to register for gifts?

I don`t see why not. A lot of couples opt to elope and then have a reception celebration after they get back from their destination wedding. Gifts are given at this event so a registry is quite appropriate.

A highly-qualified maybe. But not if it`s mentioned on the invitation, which would be tantamount to saying, "Hey, we didn`t want you at our wedding, but we`d now love to see you & your gift!" Too tacky!

If a friend or relative eloped and invited me to their reception, I would still want to give a gift to the newlyweds. First question would be "are you registered anywhere?" So why the heck not register?
Why give a gift for the ceremony and not the party after?
