Gift Registry

My husband and I were married this past april at our local court house due to our financial situation(or lack of). Eventhough we did not have a formal wedding, would it be tacky of us to send marriage notices with registration info? We are also in the midst of buying a house and we could really use some help. My mother doesnt see any problem with that but im not sure. And if I did do ythat how would I word it without coming off as really greedy? Any suggestions?
