Riu Palace Wedding

Hey I am planning a wedding at the RIU Palace in May of 2004 and would love to hear any advice you have on things to do. I have had a lot of difficulty getting in touch with the RIU and sorting things out. Please get in touch with me and we can share stories. Thanks.

Book everything through your travel agent..if you have a good one. The Palace in DR has a wonderful coordinator attached to it..were getting hitched in march 2004.

Hey- I am getting married at the Riu Palace in PdC in April. I have done most of my communication via email and haven`t had too much trouble (keeping in mind Mexican time is more lax). I would love to hear your plans- I have only heard from people who did it when Maria from Cancun Bridal was still there coordinator. Feel free to email me

I am trying to get married at the Riu Yucatan in April 2004. We had booked in June 2003 with Cancun Bridal as at the time there was no onsite planner for the hotels and they handled all the weddings. Now however they do have a planner and they will not let Maria (Cancun Bridal) onto the resort to set up the dinner and I can`t have my wedding at the resort because the date is booked. Maria has offered an private location but then the resort has to set up dinner at an extra cost and only at the Palace at times that are not very convient. Needless to say i am finding it all a bit frustrating.

Any ideas are welcome.

I got married at the Riu Yukatan in May 2001. Maria was the coordinator. We had a great time, and I would highly recommend it. If anyone knows how to get a hold of Maria - I would love to know because she still hasn`t gotten back to me about my photos!! Thanks, Shawna

I seem to be having the same problems, I to am getting married at the Riu Palace in Cancun. It just seems to be impossible to get details from these people, the language barrier, no consistancy, ect. I`ve asked them twice to send me wedding packages, and different rules and regs. And they have not done so. I don`t know what to do, I know they`re busy and all, but now I`m starting to get freaked out. I have NO details nailed down, so I feel your frustration. Please contact me at shelleydehart@yahoo.com

I just got back from my wedding in the Mayan Riviera and I have on bit of advice for you. Use Cancun Bridal and do not get married on the resort!

Originally we had planned to have our wedding at the Riu Yucatan and I am so thankful that we were able to use Cancun Bridal.

She takes you to a private location that is beautiful.

I had dealt with the Riu planner and was not at all impressed.

If you want your wedding to be special, romantic and personal, use Cancun Bridal.

If we want to boil in the heat, have strangers watching your wedding and be one of 4 weddings in a day stick with the resorts.

I would be happy give you her contact info and any more info you want.

I`m getting married September 2004, we`re staying at Riu Playacar, however decided on going with Maria from Cancun Bridal as opposed to Anna Lopez from the Riu resorts. Just wanted to know how reliable she was, has anyone had problem with her?
Thanks!
Sheri.

Hi, my husband and I just returned from our wedding at the RIU palace. It was incredible. The resort is amazing. Food is wonderful and the service is impecible. Here are a few tips. 1) If we were to do it all over again we decide we would have rather done our ceremony down on the beach around 5pm. I think it is ideal because by this time the beach is almost completely vacated and there is a nice little place that is kind of blocked off by palms and grass. We had our ceremony at the Gazebo around 5pm and it was just extremely hot and really busy with all the set up for dinner and such surrounding the area. 2) don`t have your wedding on a saturday. I think this is the most popular day. There was at least one wedding every day, but saturday I think there were 5. We decided basically that the resort was like a wedding factory. Don`t make the mistake of thinking you are the only one with this idea.

We worked with a coordinator named Emmanuelle. She was great. She is french and has been in Mexico for several years now. She does a really nice job and has good relations with the hotel. Thru her I was able to confirm all kinds of things. We book several group dinners and the night of our wedding we had a private reception at El patio. It was incredible.

Her service was also really good. She had a great DJ and a great photographer and was very accomidating. Her flower arrangements are incredible.

Let`s see. Other than that I don`t really have much advice. I would definitely recommend the palace. And when booking your reservations request Fountain View rooms. The fountains are incredible and the rooms that look over the court yard just have amazing views.

Another tip I have, is to interview and choose a very good travel agent this is the area we had the most difficulty. Our travel agent was horrific and it made things very difficult.

Serina, did you use the RIU coordinator or Cancun Bridal / Maria? I`ve heard a lot of great things about her, and some not so good. I`m a bit nervous to contact her. Has anyone been there recently or over this past winter?

I have heard to definitely not use maria. Also I have not heard anything about the coordinators at the palace. They seemed very busy while we were there so I am sure some one should be able to give feed back. We used Emmanuelle. She works with a women based out of the US and both of them are very good. Mary Jane is very helpful and so is emmanuelle. Emmanuelle is from Paris and has lived in Mexico for close to eight years. She is really good. They have very good relations with the palace so they are good at getting what you want. If you want more info feel free to contact me. -Serina

Hello everyone, I am actually helping plan the wedding with my fiance. We are looking into 2005 but still have not decided the exact date or location. I am very interested in RIU but I am having over 100 guests. I am not sure if it is the place for that size party but I would like an email of any data you may have on pricing and feedback on the location of the reception.

FYI, I was all about giving Cancun Bridal / Mary a shot. They sent all the info and pricing. I emailed back to say I have heard a lot of great things and a few bad... Asked if she`d like to respond - got nothing. I emailed a second time to say I am interested in using her services, mentioned I would be staying at Riu, still no response. I am going to try Weddings On The Move. Anyone heard of or used them?

We had awful experiences with weddings on the move. They wanted to charge us an extra 500 dollars if we didn`t have all our guests book travel thru them. I would not suggest using them. -Serina
