Too Many Guests
Hi everyone....I am getting married in March and I have a weird question. I want to invite people from my work but is it rude to just invite them and not their significant other? My guest list is getting out of control and I want everyone to be there...how do I handle this??

Personally I feel that it is inappropriate to invite someone whom you KNOW is married or in a relationship and not include that person. Or better yet not to extend an invitation to someone and a “Guest.”
As you stated Vicki your wedding guest list is getting out of hand, then if that is a problem don`t include those persons at your job at all. How many people do you know go to a party or a get together alone, let alone a wedding.
If you are having a guest list crisis figure out whom you feel is important or whom you would definitely want to be there from work and invite them only, along with their guest. Those people who are not invited will certainly have to understand.
Speaking from experience I once was invited to a wedding and not allowed to bring a guest and I felt it was distasteful and not proper etiquette.
The final decision is always yours and it is YOUR day, hence whatever makes you the happiest is what matters the most...
Good Luck

Ya I know that it is really tacky and I guess I just need to really decide who I want at my wedding but how do you distinguish at work...do I invite my bosses? It is really hard because it is such a small office. We have at the most 30 employees and 3 of my co-workers are my good friends like we do stuff outside of work. Then there are other ones who we get along great at work..if fact there isn`t anyone here that I don`t get along with...even me and my bosses are pretty close...what do I do...senority???

Since you said there are three people who you get along with very well and go out with outside of work, then obviously those are the ones that you should be invite.
Inviting persons to your wedding based upon seniority and not because you want them there to share in your special moment, loses the meaning of the day that is suppose to be filled with love and surrounded by family and CLOSE friends...not co-workers. I get along with all my co-workers, but when it comes time for my wedding, they all will not be invited and I work with a staff of only eight.
The people at your job will understand if you just stated that you are a limited with you guest selection, they will not dwell on it and they have to understand that this is your day…they will get over it!

Vicki, I ran into the same sort of situation at my work. It`s tough!
I do agree wtih Denise though that if you know they have a spouse or significant other that you should invite them. If this number will put you past the amount of people you`d like to invite -- then I wouldn`t invite the entire couple.
When looking at the people you work with and deciding if they should be invited or not -- try to not focus on if you feel you SHOULD invite then (ie, boss, supervisor, et) -- focus on if you WANT them there. The reality is - is that it`s your wedding and an event you are hosting. Who is invited should be the people you want there -- not the ones you feel you should invite.
Bottom line -- if you invite a co-worker be sure it`s someone you truly want there not just someone you feel obligated to invite. If you do extend an invite be sure to include their significant other.
That`s just my opinion on the subject....
Good luck!

My Dear Friend,
It is right that everyone of us wants to celebrate this day with all the people whom we love. It`s your wedding day, it should be a very significant day for you. You can listen to your heart and decide the people whom you really want to be there, those you really love and really want them to be there witnessing your great day with you. Some will get upset if you don`t invite them, right.. But if i was in your place and i had to be strict with my list, i have chosen those with whom i want to share my sadness and happiness, those people whom i know that without them i would feel that there is someting missing. Those with whom i shared my life.then, may be my list would include just few names but even that i would know that everybody who really cares for me are there, they are there just for ME and not for them...
Hope I succeeded in reflecting my point of view to u.
Congratulations in advance
Regards,
Haygan
