Maid Of Honor

I just engaged last Friday -YAY! I know, however, that I am going to have a fairly large problem choosing my maid of honor. First, my sister got married this past summer and I was her maid of honor. But, she lives in California and I live in Illinois. She is planning on having a baby fairly soon as well. So I don`t particularly want to ask her. Any suggestions on talking to my mother about this issue?
Second, I thought I was going to ask my best friend that I have known for about 8 years. But I`m beginning to think that she can`t handle having the spotlight on someone else. And this may sound spoiled or something, but it is MY wedding. I want the attention to be on me during planning and the actual event. I`m worried about her picking fights to cause conflict in order to turn the attention towards herself. Any thoughts?
Finally, there is one other girl I could ask. I`ve known her for about 7 years and she has always been there for me, even if not physically (go to colleges about 10 hrs apart). She`s graduating this spring but not sure about where she will be going to grad school. I would prefer that my maid of honor be close to me. Any thoughts?
I have also considered having one of my friends as maid of honor and my sister as matron of honor. I realize that this gives the same duties, essentially, to both people. But I think it would make everyone happy. Any thoughts on this?
