Older Brides
Hi Ladies,
Got the idea from another thread, there are some of us out there that are over 40. Any other over 40 future brides out there?
What are your plans?
I am wearing an Oleg Cassini coture informal. It has lace appliques with pearls and irridescent sequins. I did find a tiarra but no veil and the train on the dress is minimal.
I am making all the centerpieces for the reception. I hand beaded and wired (gold) the tops of large vases and will put in a candle and glass marbles. I am using glass and beading everywhere. I even put it in the mail of honor and flower girls basket.
I am having only a maid of honor and my flower girl is the daughter of my childhood friend. She was born on my 40th birthday. My son is giving me away as my parents are deceased. My handsome groom will have one best man. We are using my brothers as ushers but not in tuxes, they refused. Fine. LOL
We are trying to keep it simple yet elegant and for about 100 but so far everyone I know is coming out of the woodwork asking about it. I just keep telling everyone we are keeping it small. We want a honeymoon.
Anyone else find real love after 40?

Hi Kat,
I posetd on your last thread.
We are having a very small wedding (35) just immediate family and few close friends. I know what you mean about everyone asking. I am wearing a Joradn informal gown with a sweep train, in a champagne color decorated with pearls. I have purchased a pearl headband, not sure if we can make it work. My daughter is giving me away and my fiance`s daughter will be by his side instead of a best men. I am using lots of pearls in my decorations. I have made most of my things, basket for my bubbles, basket for envelopes at the reception, unity candle.
Good luck to you. What is your date?
Mine is 06/26/04!
Hope you hear from many others.

Hi Sandie,
Thanks! Sounds beautiful. I love how both daughters are taking an active part. What a novel idea too. Your dress sounds lovely and I am sure you will make the headband work. I did pick up a headband of sorts. It is white with pearls and applique flowers but I was told that was old fahioned, (mine) I did not care. When I went to pick up my dress I saw the tiarra and well mom got her wish. She always did want me to have one. It is so pretty and goes much nicer with my dress. Too bad your dress is ivory and this is white, it is so beautiful and sounds like it would match, I got it for half off the fifty dollars by joining a craft club. I would have loved to have sent it to you for free.
I am making a small program and I found bubbles that look like test tubes with a ring at the top. I am attatching them to the programs with a ribbon.
Sounds like we are frugal gals, got my dress on the clearance, it needs minor alterations and I sew, so no problem there. I have to take it to the cleaners, the train has a lot of dust on it from others trying it on but I saved so much, way over half. It is white and I don`t think there are any rules anymore. I got what I liked and it looks more like an evening gown anyway. If it was in irory I would have still gotten it. My first choice was red, but we are making that the color of the maid of honor. I think that would have been definitely a first for my church. Lol
Tee hee, good luck with keeping the number small, I know what you mean too about that. Nice everyone is happy but we cannot afford to feed them all. I know some people in the past have invited others to the ceremony but not the reception, I just don`t think that is right. I have to have 20 to start with, choir and mates, only polite. They are singing gratus but I am giving them a donation anyway.
My date is April 25th, 2004, a Sunday. We cannot marry after 11 am on saturday through 1 pm on sunday. I am saving a bit on the reception becasue of that.
Best of luck to you!

Hi Kat,
It was so nice of you to want to send the headband to me. I tried my headband with the hairdresser tonight, and it did not work. It just hides under the layers of my hair. Oh well I am sure it will all work out just fine.
I got the little white bottles of bubles and glued ivory satin roses and tule to them along with a little strand of pearls.
I too got my dress on sale, I could not believe my luck.
If you love the dress it does not matter what color it is. Just enjoy, I am sure you will look beautiful!.
Best of luck to you in all your plans, keep me posted.
Samw1955@aol.com is my e-mail in case you would like to share more as we get closser.

Not over 40, but was 38 when hubbie and i eloped earlier this year. If you want the full story, check out RENEWING VOWS CEREMONY. We`re renewing vows next year, and I am wearing my gown purchased (actually stolen it was so cheap; $200.00 marked down) from David`s Bridal. It will be intimate, and subtle colors. I`ve got a closet full of wedding items from soap bubbles to cards, to stationery, to a wedding pew bow maker. You name it, I`ve got it. I must have over $2,000.00 worth of wedding items in there. My hubbie is 9 years my junior. Where the heck was he several years ago? LOL Finally, FINALLY I have the heartbeat of my life.

Hi Sandie and thanks on the e mail, will do!
Now we have a snafu, seems my fiances sister , who is pregnant with baby number two, plans on flying into town and having the babys christening the day before the wedding. Talk about stealing someones thunder.
It is beyond belief that they could even entertain the notion. His mom thinks it`s great. Sure so she can do it all in one weekend in town. That way she has the other 51 weekends of the year to jet set and party. This is a woman who while hubby number two lay dying had to fly to party in another state because she did not want to sit around and watch him die. Unreal!
We told them flat out, YES we are too busy to make it that day and then I asked her politely to find a babysitter for the wedding. She has an admitted spoiled rotten two year old and we are having an adults only wedding. I find it humorous that no matter what your age family tries to interfere. She eloped that was her choice but to take away from our day is just plain bad taste. They can fly in any weekend they like for a christening. I think she is seeing this as an opportunity for some fast $$$ as all the realtives will be in town for our wedding. By the way we are asking for no gifts anyway.
Good luck to you Awanda!! Old enough!
My fiance is almost five years younger!

Hi Awanda,
Congradulations on your happiness. I think it is wonderful. My fiance is 4 years older than me, so I on the other end of the spectrum, but I think it is great that we have found love again and are doing the wedding thing. I think renewing your vows is a wonderful idea.
Good luck on everything!

Oh Kat,
I am sorry to hear about the family members. I think what they are doing is in bad taste, but what are you going to do? I think it would be absurd to expect you to show up the day before your wedding. Well, I am sure it will all work out for you. Keep me posted.

Kat,
That has to be one of the TACKIEST things I`ve ever heard. *rolls eyes* That`s almost as tacky as the woman that showed up at a relative`s funeral and started passing out wedding invitations...no bull!
Whatever you wear, you will be beautiful. You will move with the grace of a lioness, your smile will sparkle brighter than the crystal, and you and your love will be able to hear your hearts above all else. Don`t let the christening thing bring ya down...it is your day...do us all proud! **giggles**

Sandie,
Thanks!
I`ve dated an older man (12 years), and I dated same age man. The thing about this is, when someone can accept the love you have, and return it to you unconditionally...age difference never comes up. My hubbie had been through so much, and so had I. I would count the stars at night as the warm tears flowed and say, "I KNOW you`re out there; I know you`re trying to get to me; I know it`s hard, but just reach for me and we WILL find each other!" Sorry...feeling poetic again. **smiles** Kat or Sandie, if there`s anything that I can do, or anything I can donate let me know.

Thanks ladies and I really mean that. The future sis in law has tipped her hand and a big fau paux. She made it clear as did the mother that they did not care if I was there at all. They thought we would not mind when they planned it behind our backs, yet she bothered to call the woman who is to be godmother and make sure it did not interfere with her coaching soccer. Can you believe this ??? They expect him to choose his wedding (me) over them. I ripped her a new one. I cannot stand back now or ever and take abuse by some rich snot. I don;t care I was in an abusive marriage for over 20 years and I will never tolerate being walked all over ever again. Especially not for money. I listen to a higher authority. My honey and I are in complete agreement. She lied several times over to us both in emails so we cut and paste them all togehter and sent them back to her to which she called him a whipped man. What an incredible manipulator. She got mad at him for getting married the first time and did not go to the wedding or talk to him his entire marriage. His ex told him at their mutually agreeable divorce that she felt sorry for him that he had no support system. He never did.
I am so disgusted and as far as we both are concerned that baby who by the way has not even been born yet needs a lot of prayers with a mother like that.
Two less or more for the reception apparently.
Someday people will grow up.
Thanks again
Love,
Kat
