Music Here Comes The Bride

I have been noticing that the "Here comes the bride" isn`t played much anymore when the bride walks down the aisle. Can anyone tell me why? I am wanting to walk to that. I want to get imput from other people about this.

I walked down the aisle to it. I guess that`s what I had always imagined myself walking to when I got married. I wasn`t disappointed! :)

The reason it isnot played very often anymore is because it orriginated from a pagan wedding and many clergy member feel it part of witchcraft and won`t allow it. I too want to walk down the aisle too it and my priest won`t allow it

I know of two reasons why many do not use "Here Comes the Bride" and also the traditional wedding recessional music at their weddings.

Wagner`s "Here Comes the Bride" is from his opera "Lohengrin". And the traditional recessional is the wedding march from Mendelssohn`s "A Midsummer Night`s Dream". Both of these stories involve weddings using these pieces of music and both of the weddings in these stories are far from the theme of love or good relationships. The scenes depict things that most brides and grooms do not want associated with their marriage ceremony.

The other reason that I know of is that both Wagner and Mendelssohn were antisemitic. This alone makes many clergy not want them to be used in weddings they preside over, especially Jewish weddings.

My soloist is singing Valentine by Jim Brickman,
Then the processional will be Pachabel and finally my Dad will walk me into the tradtional Wedding March...this is what I`ve dreamed about my whole life. Many of my friends have used more contemporary music to come into...but on this one I am following my heart and doing what I want! Go with your heart!!!

"Linda" in a 10/19/03 message says Wagner and Mendelssohn were both antisemitic. In Wagner`s case this is arguable. Mendelssohn WAS Jewish, and wrote, among other pieces, the exquisite oratorio "Elijah," based on the life of the Jewish prophet. Let`s deploy accusations of antisemitism with forebearance and discretion, Linda.

I`m sorry. Let me restate that properly. Wagner was antisemitic and Mendelssohn gave up Judaism when he converted to Protestantism.

So, copyright for "Here Comes the Bride" must have expired, since Wagner died more than a hundred years ago.

Some music company told me they do not produce it because of copyright. Liar, liar, pants on fire. So sad that bigoted people are allowed to be in positions of power.

I am walking to Love of my life by Jim Brickman, I wanted to use Valentine sung by Martina McBride but friends of ours just got married and used it , even though they knew that it was our song. They didn`t have a song so they used ours. But anyway, we both listened to Jim Brickman and realized that the words of the song meant alot to each of us.

Here comes the bride is rarely used anymore because the brides that I have talked to tell me that its not personal to them. They want to have a personal touch to walking down the aisle. I am a DJ and I hear alot of different songs used to walk down to.

IT IS NOT PAGAN. Silly, the song is written into an opera as an actual wedding song in the wedding in the play. It boosted the popularity. It probably isn`t loved by clergy because it`s not dripping with religious reference, it`s essentially from entertainment.

The traditional wedding processional "Here Comes The Bride" is from the opera Lohengrin by Richard Wagner. In the opera, the relationship between Elsa and Lohengrin was doomed because of a broken promise.

These are the words: (notice, they`re lovely)

Here Comes the Bride

Here comes the bride,
All dressed in white,
Sweetly, serenly in the soft glowing light.
Lovely to see, marching to thee,
Sweet love united for eternity.

There`s no specific reason why not many brides walk to "Here comes the bride". Now, it`s just the fact that brides are trying to be different. I walked down the isle to canon d. (beautiful song!) There`s nothing wrong with "here comes the bride". You should walk to whatever you want to. It`s your day! Who cares if it`s not the popular song that brides walk down to nowadays.

Thankyou Shelley Anne...you solved a problem for me. We are to be married on Valentines Day, and one of the songs we were trying to incorporate is Valentine, by martina mc Bride. We already have our chosen first dance and father daughter dance so, I am going to use it for walking down the aisle, instead of a dance song. Thank you so much, and it fits well with our Valentine theme no doubt. It is the perfect song for us, and it isn`t too long either....

Years after the nice lady wrote the words from the opera to "Here Comes the Bride" I want to thank her... When I was a child, the toy industry came out with a first, a "walking" doll - a bride. They had thier own words for the Wedding March that ring in my head years later and I`ve wanted the correct words to replace them.
Here comes the bride
All dressed in white
Dressed in bright fashion
With real embroidery.
Moves by herself
So much fun to play
With a bride doll that moves
And throws her bouquet!
See how that can drive a person insane? Finally I have found the words to overlay and rid myself of that damned commercial!!!! THANK YOU wonderful woman!!
