Delema On Wedding Dress And Money

My fiance and i are getting married on 11/29/03 and my figure fits a sz found locally for almost any dress but we have almost no money for it, and my brides maids arent really helping, And my Soon to be mother in-law says if we get married by the JP (justice of the peace) then we dont deserve an engagement party, unless we have a huge recept ( i can kinda see where shes coming from -- if we get gifts at eng. Party we thank them by inviting to recp) but, no money again for reception, any comments are greatfull please help us,

I think that just because you don`t have a lot of money doesn`t mean you can`t have a nice wedding. And as for the JP issue, lots of people get married by a JP - be it, mixing of cultures, don`t belong to a church, can`t afford a minister, whatever. Getting married in a church by a minister doesn`t make you any more married than having a wedding performed by a JP in the backyard. I think it`s ridiculous to say that if you don`t have a minister you don`t DESERVE an engagement party. An engagement party is to celebrate your engagement and start into the journey of being a fiancee and then a spouse, not to say, here we are being married the "RIGHT" way. As for the dress, shop around thrift stores and second hand shops or vintage clothing stores. See if you can find a dress that would be suitable. Or if you know someone who can sew, have the dress made. Throw yourself the wedding you want, and don`t worry so much about what someone thinks is right or wrong. You are going to be husband and wife whether or not a minister marries you or you have a 5000 dollar gown on. And people will come to an engagement party whether or not they think a minister is marrying you.
