Cash Or Gift Cards As Gifts

I am hosting a wedding shower for my best friend. The couple is in the miltary and going to be in Japan for 1year before returning to the US. They can not take their gifts overseas and really would really rather have cash or gift cards that they can use at a later date. How should I let the guest know thier request?
