Disney Princess Bridesmaids-Dress Suggestions

Hi! I want all my bridesmaids to be Disney Princess... I am Cinderella. Maid of Honor Snow White... Belle... Sleeping Beauty. But i don`t want them to look cheesy wearing a halloween costume, but want them to hold true to the charector they are. Has anyone ever done this?? THANKS!

This is too funny to be true. You`re putting us on, right?

Well considering I have seen this theme several times on this site, I`ll take it for granted you are serious.
You can always use the Halloween costume patterns for the dresses and maybe use a more elegant fabric than it calls for ( usually some cheap satiny type). Use a taffeta or heavier satin and a nice lace. Maybe have the coloring of the dresses a paler version than the original Disney version. Such as Belle, instead of a bright yellow use a pale yellow. Snow white... Use a light blue and lighter version of red or even pink. Just a thought. And if this is a joke by chance, cute idea for a party :-).

If it`s not a joke (and it sounds like maybe it is) then it`s just strange. Making your closest friends dress up in costumes and walk down the aisle like Disney characters is just cruel. That is no way to honor them. Having a Cinderalla theme is one thing, but this is just going too far in my opinion. Pick out beautiful gowns for them (Grownup gowns!)and honor them for supporting you and standing up in your wedding. Let them be themselves - isn`t that why you love them?

WOW! I am shocked. All the girls in my wedding party are excited about this wedding! Its sad that people can`t think outside of the box. Very Sad. People can have Mid-evil themes all they want, and dress there wedding party (groomsmen in tights!) But Disney princesses OH NO! I just wanted some advice on how to NOT look cheesy! Like a certain style of dress or something. But instead i am made fun of.
If there is still anyone who can help me and not criticize my wedding as a joke i would love the help. My Wedding is a Movie theme. Thank you.

I agree that all of the responses were absolutely rude. Nichole never asked for your two cents regarding her theme. She was asking for information on how to make the dresses.

Nichole, your best bet would be to get good pictures of the dresses that you`re looking for and talk to a professional seamstress. She can get exactly the material you`re looking for and tell you what each dress will run. Don`t go to someone that specializes in wedding attire or they`ll charge you an arm and a leg since this is "out of the ordinary" Regardless of who you go with, ask to see samples (both actual and photographs) of their work. Good luck with everything.

Nichole is right. Why doesn`t anyone say anything about medievel themes, civil war themes, halloween themes, hockey themes? I`ve seen all of these posted on this site. Why hasn`t anyone said a word?

Oh wait, I know why. Because it`s rude, inappropriate and tacky to comment on someone`s personal preferences for their wedding. Especially someone you don`t even know. Nichole, do what makes you happy. It sounds like you will have a wedding that is a lot more fun and lighthearted than any of the ignorant idiots who responded.

Nichole, I think your theme sounds darling! I would also seek out a seamstress to make the dresses. Or, do you know someone who is talented behind a sewing machine who will do it for you? I would select the fabric carefully, and slight variations in colour won`t make a difference. Are your bridesmaids doing their hair the same way too? they could wear wigs and then all you would have to do is style them before and they could just slip them on (unless they are naturally black haired, brunette, blonds and red-haired - or they are willing to dye their hair for your wedding). I would find patterns at any fabric store - look in the halloween section - i have seen patterns for disney costumes in there. A good seamstress will make it look elegant, not tacky and cheesy. Another alternative is to contact walt disney world and tell them your theme, maybe they would sponsor you or perhaps help you (they always have costumes - and it`s good advertising for them after all). Good luck your wedding sounds like a lot of fun.

P.S. Is your groom dressing up like Prince Charming?

Stop the presses!! ALL of the responses were not rude...please go back to my earlier response. I was being serious with my suggestions. I was only responding to Susan T`s comment about the joke.
Anyone who reads these postings on a regular basis know I am all for themes and whatever the bride wants!
Now some of the serious suggestions were great ideas. It actually would be a great addition to have the groom dressed as Prince Charming too. Why not, he is afterall right?:-)
I wish you the best Nichole. I wish I could see most of these themed weddings. All of my friends had the traditional weddings. These sound like they would be awesome!

Thank you! it was very nice to know people stood by me. Sissy i know your statments were not meant to be rude. The others were hurtful. This is the happiest time of my life and i am extremely excited about this Theme!! My Groom is actually dress as Batman! He along with the groomsmen will be Superheros... They will be in tuxes... Its hard to explain. We wanted a wedding that displays our very playful personailties! i will look into a seamstress! Thanks for the advice not to go to a wedding person. I don`t want to make this too expensive for my girls. As for there hair. My maid of honor has short hair that she dyes all the time and is making it black for the wedding. And i have a blonde and burnette! I think i am set with hair! :) thank you again! Anymore ideas for decorations or anything!! Its a movie themed wedding so our options are VERY open! the more creative the better! Thanks again!!

You may have already thought of this but you could have your ushers "taking tickets" and you might think this is a little much but give your guests popcorn during the ceremony.

Thats a good idea! Thanks! We are actually having popcorn thrown at the end of the ceremony instead of bubbles or seads! my fiancee loves popcorn!! The Usher are dressing in the old movie theater usher style also. I know this sounds really odd to most. But we want our wedding to be a fun wedding for adults and kids since he i are such big kids at heart! Thanks!!

Oh my too cute on the superhero idea. My ex would have loved to have had that for his guys.
I gave this suggestion to another movie theme bride... Why not give out "Oscars" ( small trophys or plaques) to your wedding party and /or the parents to thank them for all they do. Do a little ceremony at the reception. Be sure to roll out the red carpet!
Play lots of movie themed songs ( especially love songs) at the wedding reception too. Top Gun, Gone with the Wind, Beauty and the Beast etc.
May sound a little cheesy but maybe incorporate some lines from movies in the ceremony ( Ie: "You complete me" Jerry Macguire.)
I would love to see the end result with this wedding. I wish you the best!! :-)

First of all I would like to say I love your idea.

I like the idea of making the bridesmaids dresses in lighter colors too so that you stand out more because well it is YOUR day!!

I don`t know how long you have or if you could find them but for decorations you could use old movie reels some how. I`ve seen them used for other things on TV and they always said they found them at flea markets or antique stores. You might even be able to find them online.

I think the Oscar idea would be really cute if not at your reception maybe at your rehearsal dinner if your having one.

Good luck on your wedding planning and I hope you have a great time at your wedding!!!

It looks to me like a show is being put on not a wedding. The focus is so off of the real occasion and so on to silly costumes.

Thanks! My Fiancee and I have already picked out our "oscars" for the wedding party. Just a little thing to give them at the rehersal dinner. Thanks for the links for the dresses also. I need all the help i can get. Our whole famalies have been on the look out for old movie things and what not. We networked A LOT and have gotten some great deals. Its all very exciting. Thanks!!

Val, shut up. As someone already mentioned before, no one asked for your opinion. The focus here IS on the real occassion. A FUN WEDDING, like the couple`s personalities seem to be. FUN. Your wedding can center around the fact that you`re an idiot. If you`re anything in real life like you are in your posts, I`m sure none of YOUR guests will object to that theme!

You can tell me to shut up and call me all the names you like. Doesn`t bother me. I still think there`s a huge difference between a fun wedding and this. A wedding is not the place to have pretend time. Dressing up and pretending you are Cinderalla and your bridemsaids are snow white etc, and the groom batman? Playing pretend on your wedding isn`t appropriate.

Val i would really like it if you would stop Posting on my thread. I want help, not someone to make fun of me. We are not playing pretend! I want to feel and look like Cinderella! Its my FAVORITE! He LOVES super heros. So why not be in a tux at the wedding and your cape after words! DURING A CELEBRATION! A celebration of him and I joining. And this is who we are. So if you don`t have anything positive to post then don`t post at all. Didn`t your mother teach you respect?? I know mine did. And my mother loves my wedding theme!

"I want to feel and look like Cinderella!"

Why do you want to look and feel like a fictional character at your own wedding? Why don`t you want to be yourself? It`s YOUR wedding, not Cinderella`s wedding.

Posted 10/06/03 by Nichole
"Its my FAVORITE! He LOVES super heros."

So? Just because you like something doesn`t mean you should pretend to be them at your wedding. My husband loves football, but he doesn`t want to dress up like a football star at his wedding. I want to marry him, not a character he`s pretending to be.

"A celebration of him and I joining. And this is who we are."

I find it fascinating that two grown people think this is who they are. This is NOT who you are. You are NOT Cinderalla and your fiance is NOT Batman.

Val. I don`t care what you think. LEAVE ME ALONE! I am doing what I want. I don`t care about you, or anything you have to say. I think you are more obsessed with this than anyone. So just LEAVE!

Val, if you don`t like Nichole`s theme, then don`t do it. But who are you to shut down her theme when you don`t even know her. Grow up and stop being so rude.
Nichole, I still think your theme is darling, just try to ignore those without a sense of wonder.
