??Approximate Cost-Alterations??
Can someone give me the approximate cost that I should expect in Tennessee/Northwest Georgia area for a Wedding Gown alteration (letting out at top, bringing in at the bottom of the dress) and for replacing some pearls/beads? I`m just not sure what I should take as High/Low when I call some places for quotes (I know they can`t give me a for sure cost until seeing the gown). And do you recommend toting it around town to all the different places? Or just calling? Thanks

You really can`t expect to get a really good estimate unless the seamstress sees the dress. They have no idea what you mean by taking off "a little beading" or whatever. How many layers does your wedding dress have? Mine had 4 separate layers in the bodice and was expensive to alter. If you want to get a real estimate I would take it to different seamstresses or be very specific over the phone. For example say I have 6-2X3 patches of beads that need to be taken off. It`s really hard to see exactly what needs to be done unless they see the dress. From working at a 2 different dry cleaners where they did alterations it was usually about $75-$300 for alterations on wedding dresses. (That was in CO) Have you talked to friends or family that can recommend someone? I hope this helps.

Well, my dress is a one layer sheath dress so not too many layers. But, some of the beads/pearls are lose and I need those redone.....really kind of thinking about doing that myself since I am a half decent needle work person :) and I`m not that picky since it`s a reaffirmation ceremony. The main thing I need done by a seamstress is let out in the bust area and taken in at the hips....to get rid of the gathered fabric on the sides. And sadly everyone in my family as well as my friends have been married so long that they don`t remember those details of their day. Since my ceremony is a repeating of vows after 10 years of marriage I`m trying to spend minimal on the dress at all and focus more on the moment and friends and family....so I`ll check around. Thanks for the insight :)
