Guest At October Outside Evening Wedding

Hi. I am attending a wedding in mid October with my boyfriend, a friend of the groom. The wedding and reception are outside in a garden at 5PM on a Sunday. The invitation did not specify any type of dress code and I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to wear. Would a black dress with a pashmina be appropriate? I want to be appropriate but warm! Any help is appreciated.
