Restaurant Reception

Hello all of my "friendly" advisors,
I am getting married in Vegas 3/04. I tried the traditional route of a hall or banquet room and was totally unimpressed with the prices, food options, and extra hidden fees. So we decided to go to a fantastic restaurant that specializes in handling weddings.
The problem I have is how to keep the excitement level up. I don`t want everyone to eat and run, but to enjoy their time with us before they go gamble. Any ideas?
We can`t hire a band, no room. And there will be a mariachi band playing in the front of the restaurant on their stage. Is it acceptable tp bring a small cd player and have the CD we designed as a favor playing on a low level? How do I handle the toast and the cake cutting and all those little details without it seeming stale?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated as long as they were intended to help and not insult. THANK YOU!!

Kristina,
You said the restaurant is use to having weddings. Maybe their is someone there that can advise you how to handle everything. We are having our reception at a hotel. They assigned us a co-ordinator who we had to meet with and she helped us establish a "timeline" for the different events. Cocktails from this time to this....followed by announcing the bridal party, followed by toasts from the Best Man and Maid of Honor.....well you get the idea. I`m sure they have seen it all and someone should be able to help you or tell you that someone else did this etc. I think you should start there....Good Luck
