Out Of Town Bridal Shower

My brother is getting married in May 2010 in Florida,
I`m wondering if it`s in poor taste to send his relatives an invite to a gift card shower? The bride will have a normal shower in Florida with the all the bridesmaids there including me. I just don`t think 2 bridal shower parties are necessary. Am I wrong???
