Davids Bridal In Columbus, Ohio

I too have been through the wringer with the customer service at David`s Bridal. Or - lack thereof, I should say. Mine came when I went in to their shop after purchasing my gown from them. I dropped in for undergarments. I guess after the big dress commission, the salespeople get to treat you like a leper. Perhaps it`s in their handbook. I mean, the saleswoman went to her lunch while I was in the dressing room!
It`s a very long story, but rest assured, I wont go back. I`m having my fittings done by a private seamstress and telling all my friends never to go there.

My question is ... Why don`t they know this is a problem? and why aren`t they making steps to change anything?

You sound lie BRIDZILLA. Do you know that your consultant`s big commission that you are so concerned about is 6 to 8 percent of the sale? If you spent $1000 then she made 6 to 8 dollars for putting up with you for how many hours? She brought you some very heavy dresses anf then some more and put up with you family and friends and then you didn`t even buy everything that you needed on the day that you bought you dress. You spent more time going back for what you already had on the day you chose the dress. Would you skip lunch for that? I don`t think so, big spender!

6-8% commission on a $1000 sale is $60-$80, not $6-$8. Do the math.

Gee, I wonder where you work?

I`m really not sure how the compensation works at David`s. I really don`t care.

As far as being Bridzilla, that`s pretty far from the truth.
I`m about the easiest going bride there is. I went in with no agenda, no plan, heck! I didn`t even have a wedding color. My sister-in-law Susan will be eight months pregnant when she stands up for me at my wedding. She and I are very close. I definately wanted her to be there and to be as comfortable and non `body concious` as she could be. If she found a dress that she liked - THAT would be my color.

What I went in expecting was common courtesy. What I received was sighing, eyerolling and an unwillingness to help to a degree that I`ve never encountered before anywhere. And that`s putting it as nicely as I can.

And by the way, my sister, Annie was the one who helped me in the dressing room. She brought me my shoes. She exchanged my veils. There was no salesperson to be found. Now that I think of it, other than putting my dress on the rack, no Davids employee has had to cart ANY of the dresses that I tried on. We carried them all.

Wow. Now I`m more ticked off. =)

Jenna,

My message was directed at Marty, not you. Hope you didn`t think otherwise. I have also been through hell with David`s. I am warning everyone to stay away.

Anyone else who has had a terrible experience-please file a complaint with the BBB, as well as the state Attorney General`s Consumer Complaint Division. There are also Consumer Law attorneys and consumer advocates who might be able to help, especially if there are misrepresentation issues involved.

I totally agree with you both that David`s is a psycho place to get a dress!! We just had one open up in our town this summer and all I can say is that it was the worst experience. I walked in the door expecting to look around and they wouldn`t let me go through until I registered with them. On top of that they kept looking at me as though I wasn`t really planning to get married and kept quizzing me about the date the wedding would take place. It was quite bizarre. In any case I`m glad my wedding isn`t till next year and that I still have time to find a better dress somewhere else!

Jenna,

If you haven`t already done so, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You can also file a complaint with the Attorney General`s Office-they have a consumer complaint division. I will be doing both. Depending on damages incurred, anyone can file a claim in Small Claims Court. Make sure if you do that you file in the proper jurisdiction (city where store is located where purchase was made). I believe you can file up to 2 years after the date of the incident if the claim is worth $3000 or less.

Nothing will change if we don`t complain to the right people. You can also call Nancy Fenn at the Corporate office, but I bet you won`t get anywhere. She told me I should just buy higher heels to make up for the length of my dress (long story). But at least you can document that you tried to fix the situation with the company. Her number is 1-800-823-2403. David`s is owned by May Department Store Corp. The customer service rep that I have a number for is Jonathon Dowling and his number is 1-314-342-4383.

David`s cannot continue getting away with their unconscionable business practices. Let`s make some noise!

Okay let me try this again. I purchased a dress from david`s in the fall of 2001. Within 1 week of buying the dress I found out I was pregnant with my second child. I called them to find out about returning or exchanging the dress and they threw a fit. Needless to say I will not be doing business with them again.

I was not thrilled with David`s either. I had about 8 dresses to try on. The first thing the sales lady said was not to let my mom, sister or friend to influence my decision. Ok, fair enough. Good advice. But the first dress that my mom cried at (mind you, she`s a crier...at EVERYTHING!) she said, nope that`s it. You`re done! She wouldn`t let me try on anything else! And that was a dress SHE picked out! It was about $500 more than I wanted to spend! I was completely disgusted. I called the store about 3 days later to complain, and they just said, Oh, that`s the way they are trained. They`re trained to be rude and pushy???

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I didn`t realize this was happening all over the place. My sister-in-law is getting married in Florida and I went down (from VA) to help her pick out bridesmaid and flower girl dresses. We went to the Davids Bridal, and they were NASTY! Nobody wanted to help us while we were picking out dresses, but while I was trying them on, the lady comes over all snooty, asking if we were registered and telling us the 10 unused dressing rooms were reserved. Ugh! We were disgusted! Now we have to pick out new flowergirl dresses because the ones we liked were there and we don`t want to support their rudeness! I don`t know how they stay in business!

I just had the worst time at Davids! When i bought the dress, which was over a year before my wedding...i informed the sales associate that I was planning on losing some weight and didnt want to buy it if I couldnt exchange for size. She informed me it was no problem, and that at any time I would like to exchange for size I could. Just to keep my receipt. Well, now I am down a few sizes. And when i took it back they threw a fit. I had even talked to the manager who is now telling me she never talked to me and doesnt remember me. That is such crap! Anyway, she finally agreed to exchange for size, so she brings out the smaller size. IT WAS FILTHY! it was so dirty I cant even explain. When I asked for a cleaner dress they said that this dress was all they could exchange for. So they went and tried to clean it, but made me exchange my nice dress first so that i now owned the dirty one. Well, after they "cleaned" it, it looked worse than it did before. I could hear the lady in the back telling the cleaning lady about how they didnt like me and how I was causing such problems by trying to return the dress. So when they brought it out, I wouldnt take it still dirty. The MANAGER told me if I didnt trust them to clean it and if i didnt like what they could do for me, maybe I should take my clean dress and take my business elsewhere. I am beyond pissed off at this point! ugh!

Well, I guess Davids Bridal is horrible everywhere. I am from Nj and I too had such a nightmare dealing with the morons who work at Davids Bridal in Springfield NJ.
I ordered a dress 3 months ago, but they didn`t have my size. So, they told me they would order me a new dress from the distributer. A few weeks later, they called me to tell e my dress was in. When I went to pick it up the dress was in awful condition. It was torn, there were beads missing, there was make up on it etc. When I told the saleswoman, she gave me such an attitude about buying a new dress. I was very calm and polite and I even apologized.
Another month later, I was called to come get my new dress. And when I went in to pick it up for a second time...the sneaky pieces of sh&t put the same dress in a different bag. Now when I complained the woman told me I made a mistake and no one called me to pick up my dress and I should just breathe and calm down.
Finally, yesterday...3 months after I ordered the dress and was promised it in 4 weeks, I go back and finally take my dress home, but it still wasn`t new. It was just in wearable condition.
The funniest part was that they actually asked me when I`d like to set up an appointment for alterations!!!! Needless to say I laughed in their faces!
Goodluck to everyone on their upcoming wedding!

Well I guess I`ll add my experience. Short and sweet, went in, ordered dresses in Sterling silver. The dresses came back and looked NOTHING like the color on the chart. The assistant mngr`s response was, "Oh the dresses NEVER turn out to look like the color on the chart, ha, ha, ha". Well guess what, if you knew this than why do you have a flippin chart on the wall that is NOT going to be the color of the dress that the customer wants? Sorry if I`m rambling, I`m just sooooooooo mad about this, I was just in there last night and had to deal with this useless person who tried to totally play dumb with me and acted like I was an idiot. I could have nailed her to the wall, she was so ignorant. If anyone wants to respond to me about this, use my E-mail address divinity81799@aol.com because I want to collect as many stories as possible and use them against these idiots. Someone has to take a stand with these people. Thank You

By the way, does anyone out there know of an E-mail address for David`s Bridal. Of course their web site doesn`t have any way to contact them. I guess they wouldn`t have enough room in their mailbox to fit all the complaints.

Same story here in Connecticut. Davids is known for their rudeness and lack of knowledge in the Bridal Industry.
I was told that they don`t "order" dresses, but get them from other Davids stock. Very misleading.
I can`t belive that they charge you $10 for a gown bag after your purchase. If I am paying for a bag, I would want it to have my name on it - not theirs. So, they even charge you for their advertising.
Their is a Davids complaint website - you should read some of those stories.
I don`t know how they stay in business.

I bought a dress and hate it. I felt rushed into buying, they said ALL the dresses I liked were not going to be there next week, even though there were about 50 of them. I have a letter of complaint. I want my money back and they can keep the dress that I haven`t even recieved yet. What DO I DO?!?
