Jumping of the broom is for weddings isn`t it? i`ve been to my family friend`s and my cousin`s sweet sixteens and they had a cotillion. A cotillion is a group of eight girls and eight guys, including the birthday girl and her escort so that it will equal 16 people. They do waltzes and (if you want) i guess you can do modern dances too. There`s also the shoe ceremony. This usually happens in the beginning. The girl walks into the hall or whatever and she sits down onto her "throne", which is usually just a huge white chair, and she might be wearing something like sneakers or any type of flat shoes. Then a girl and a boy come in and in their hands are pillows, one with the shoes and the other with a crown (i think this is optional though, they could just hold a shoe each). The girl changes her sneakers/flats into the new shoes, which should be high heels to signify her ascent from childhood to womanhood. Also, there is the 16 candles ceremony, where the b-day girl lights her 16 candles and names each one for a person or group of people that made a difference in her life--friends, family..etc...That`s mostly all i know.
