Flowers On Mother Of Groom Dress?

I`m having a heck of a time finding a dress for my son`s wedding. I found a long, short sleeved, dark rich brown dress with flowers along the taupe/rust/red theme. They are accented by a few sequins. It has a layered hem.

Is it totally improper not to wear a plain colored dress as the mother of the groom? It is not in the least bit skimpy, and the colors are not overly bright, and the flowers are arranged in an attractive manner.

I would feel wonderful in the dress, if I felt I was appropriate. Most of the typical mother of the groom dresses make me feel old!
