Unique Ideas For My Wedding Ceremony
My fiance and I are both 22 years old and this is our first(and only) marriage. We have great ideas for the reception, and plenty of friend and family resources to make it very inexpensive, however, I have no idea what to do at the ceremony. We want an outdoor wedding, probably at the arboretum in Hesston, Ks. We are not very religious, so I`m not sure who to have as an official. Since we are not having a traditional wedding I do not want the traditional ceremony. I am looking for unique ideas, but nothing weird. The wedding is going to be the 18 or 19 of Sept. 04.

I guess you could release doves. There are some companies that provide trained doves specifically for weddings. The bride holds one, the groom holds the other and they are released simultaneously. The doves always fly back to the trainer when called. It`s a simple and pretty addition to any wedding. You could also release monarch butterflies. There are companies that provide those as well - just do a search on the internet. The only problem is if you are having the wedding in an aboretum, the rules may be strict and you`ll need to finds out if they will allow the release of butterflies since you`re adding a new species to the garden. They may be ok with doves since trained doves fly back to the owners afterwards.
The other suggestion is you could have a medieval wedding or some other theme where the bridal party and the guests dress up.
You could hire a harp player since you are having an outdoor garden style wedding. It will match your setting...unless you don`t like classical music.

For a more personal touch, you could have a close family member or friend marry you. You need to go to your state webpage and fill out some forms. Anyone can become a registered wedding officiant, there may be a small fee to do this.

If you do not want the traditional vows, why not write your own? I`ve done a lot of research online about this and there are a ton of websites with ideas on wording and such. Try "wedding vows" in your search box. Also, try "wedding ceremony" to get ideas on customs and traditions with weddings to give you ideas and customize it for you and your groom.
As far as who can marry you, check into maybe having a notary do it. I think most states allow that. Call your local courthouse and ask them. They can also tell you where to get a list of officiants. Ask around too, you may find a friend who is a notary or know someone who is one. A notary will usually just say whatever you want them to say as far as the wedding goes. All they have to do is witness that the two of you made a committment to each other and notarize the papers.
Hope this helps!

You can go to DFWX.com and they have about 40 pages of ceremony ideas. So far the rose ceremony is my favorite. I think I`m using for my wedding.
