HALLOWEEN WEDDING

I live in Rochester, NY and am planning a Halloween themed wedding for Oct. 30, 2004. My first idea was to find a finished barn for the reception so that I could keep the Halloween/Fall feeling alive. I can`t seem to find anything along those lines. My second thought was some sort of castle (did I mention I live in Rochester, NY.. Castle? yea right!) Anyone have any other ideas???

I am getting married on Halloween this year. Due to costs (trying to save money) I am having my wedding at my father`s pub. Basically it is just a big square room with high ceilings. I am really trying to go with the spooky halloween feel. So, I figure if I just load it up with lots of decorations (mostly homemade) no one will even remember that it is just a pub! But if you have the money to pay for a really nice place there is a castle in CT. It is called St. Clements (here is the link for thier site http://www.sharethejoy.net/092102/page001.htm ). I don`t really know how far away Rochester is or if your guests would be willing to travel, but it is a castle!!!! Good Luck!!!

Too Bad Sonnenburg Gardens in Canandaigua isn`t doing their Haunted Gardens this year. That would have been perfect! There are haunted houses around the area. Does the wedding have to be on Halloween?

Just saw that the wedding is for next Halloween Eve. Maybe Sonnenburg will be doing their Haunted Gardens next year. Lots of room and a Mansion too! Spooky

Tara, I`m glad I`m not alone and someone else wants a Halloween wedding! I just want it to be fun. CT is farther than I want my guests to travel unfortunately, but thank you very much for the information! Have a wonderful wedding and good luck = )

Pat, I did think of Sonnenburg... And then I looked at their prices and almost choked LOL Our families are very small and we don`t need a lot of room. But yes... It would have been ideal. We could have even went through the gardens with the wedding party (although I`m a big chicken and scream through the whole thing).

I found a barn in South Bristol (Canandaigua) yesterday. We actually went to see it and put a deposit down. It`s totally finished (doesn`t even look like a barn on the inside). Has a dance floor, a kitchen, has it`s own table and chairs... Etc. The only problem is that if we want space to dance, it will only accomodate about 60 people (80 is the max for the barn). We figure we will have just about 60 people so now I`m worrying that it will be crowded. One more thing.. It`s an hour away. Is that too far to ask guests to travel? I finally understand why brides get so stressed! And all this time I thought it was because they were nervous about marrying the groom. Silly me!

Where is the ceremony? If you get married in Rochester and travel to South Bristol, people might tend to just meet you at the reception. We have often gone an hour away for a wedding. If they need hotel rooms, Canandigua should have quite a few at the end of October. My sister in law works for Canandaigua Motel. It`s pretty nice. If you do travel through Canandaigua (or close) to get to the reception, it might still be nice enough at the end of October for photos at the gazebo at Kershaw Park (waterfront). I bet the Inn on the Lake has a honeymoon suite for the happy couple.

I was thinking of having my wedding around halloween of next year, or having a masquered themed wedding the spring after, but anyways... I was thinking of renting a small old theater -- think "Phantom of the Opera." I don`t know how much they run, but living in NY I`m sure you could find one!

P.S. Keep the lights the low for the added "spook appeal!" =)

Thank God there are other people out there who thinking that getting married on Halloween is cool. I will be getting married this Halloween. We will be having a cotume contest. Since my fiance and I don`t have alot of money, we used our imaginations and bought tons of Halloween decorations on clearance.

We want to have a Costume Contest too! I even want to tie doughnuts up with string and have a contest to see who can eat them the fastest with their hands tied behind their back LOL Ya know.. The traditional Halloween stuff! With us not having it until next year... We can buy all the Halloween decorations when they go on sale this year post-Halloween. And I found my barn! This great barn in Macedon. It`s heated and clean.. But it used to be a real barn and has a "spooky" feel to it. I CAN`T WAIT! Good luck with your wedding Shannon.. Have a ball :)

Ugggg... My wedding/reception location is a bust! We went to put the deposit down on this great barn in Macedon and they tried to charge us 3 times as much as we were quoted 2 weeks before that. We argued with them, but to no avail. It`s back to the drawing board and I`m having a hard time finding a place that will let me bring in my own caterer. I certainly don`t want anything fancy with this being a Halloween wedding. I must be missing a category in the phone book or something! What would you look up in the yellow pages to rent a Hall or meeting space? If I look up Banquet Hall.. I get a hundreds of people who insist that you use their catering. What`s a girl to do???

Kerri,

You might try looking at clubs, like an italian club or polish club. They usually have halls ( they are nothing great to look at, but you can decorate to fix that!) that you can rent for CHEAP!!!! They usually don`t even have food to sell you. I have been to many events at these places, usually softball fund raisers or stuff for veterans ( there are veteran clubs too) and we always had to supply all the food ourselves. You may get the booze included, and it is usually really cheap too ( that is why people usually join these clubs, too drink for cheap!!!). Good luck!! Also, I had my wedding at a bar and it turned out awesome!!!!! My brother forgot to turn on the fog machine, but other than that it was the best wedding I have ever been to!!! I hope you remebered to buy your Halloween decorations right after Halloween on clearance!!!

My wedding was the best time I ever had!! I had it at a boat club. See if you can fine someone to "sponser" you for the reception. I was able to bring in my own caterer and was only charged $1 per head. I hope your wedding was as great as mine!!

I live in SE Louisiana and I am planning a wedding for Halloween 2004. I`m very seriously considering an old, historic plantation just 20 minutes from my home. The ambiance is priceless.. Hundred year old oak trees and a Greek Revival mansion. That might be a little off the mark for you in NY, but is there any equivalent to a plantation in your area? An old hotel? or bed & breakfast with a garden? I`d love to swap ideas with you!
