HELP! Reception In A Gym
I am having my reception in a gym. I don`t love it but I am going to try to make the best of it. Does anyone have ideas on how to dress it up so that it doesn`t look so much like...a gym???? Please help!

I would invest in tulle, white lights, greenery. I am not sure what your budget is or where you are located, but we rented an beautiful arch that we are decorating with greenery and it is only costing about $30. Try to put emphasis on the head table, the cake table and the stage(if you have band or dj). It can distract from other things. With the right lighting and centerpeices, people may not notice the things you don`t want them too!
I don`t know if I have been any help or not!!
Best of luck!

Is this a Gym at a school? Or a Local work out Gym?
IF its a gym at a school you have a lot of Room to work with... Like the previous poster stated.. Get some Tulle, some greenery and so forth.. If you have a tight budget use your imagination... Like they say SIMPLE is Elegant.. It does not have to be FULL of stuff.. Just add some white.. Some balloons and off you go... If there is a table there then you can decorate that table for the cake..
I wish you luck! I would love to hear your results when your wedding is over and you have time to post :)
Good LUck

I went to a gym reception where the borrowed potted trees (tall ones) from a local greenhouse- and covered them with white christmas lights, the overhead lights were pretty dim and it was lovely! The focus was on the candlelit tables and the flowers. Definitely cover the basketball hopes and backboards. Good luck and let us know how it comes out!

We had our wedding at the catholic school cafeteria. We bought white arch`s from michaels and covered them in tulle and white lights. We also used the cafeteria tables and covered the seats with tulle and put a bow around the bottom of it. Tulle does wonders! :)

I am right there with you! We are having my parents` 50th wedding anniversary in a large wooden rectangular hall - ugh. We are not allowed to use nails or staples to attach anything to the walls - probably like you. I have been voted to do the decorations on one condition - cheap. I too am going with the tulle theme; however, I am going to use gossamer instead. There is a really great website www.shindigz.com where gossamer is actually cheaper than tulle. I am covering the tables with sheets and adding the gossamer as trim around the top. My mother-in-law had a great idea also. We can get cheap doors at an outlet near my home ($5 each). I am going to hinge three together and cover with the gossamer. This should make a nice backdrop in each corner. Add a few trees covered with xmas lights. Believe it or not, I have only had three weeks to put this together. Wish me luck and wishing you luck.
