House Of Brides - Opinions??

Has anyone ever bought a dress online through House of Brides in Chicago?? They have the best prices that I can find, but I am a bit nervous about ordering online. If anyone has any success or horror stories about them, please share...

I am in the middle of a transaction with them myself. I haven`t heard any reviews from anyone else. I had some difficulty with processing the order initially, due I think to the fact that their online transaction system was not prepared for my Canadian credit card. The order was pending and the people at House of Brides weren`t confirming the authorization with Mastercard, so I cancelled the transaction and started from scratch with one of the reps from House of Brides. The service I have received from them in trying to sort this problem out has been excellent, but that`s as far as I am right now. No feedback yet on the actual shipping or dress.

The no tax, no shipping is a really great bonus to the already fantastic prices.

I have visited the house of brides in chicago at two of their different locations. I`m quite surprised they are giving you a good price (unless the dress you`re ordering is discontinued - then their prices are good) because I saw 2 dresses there that I`d tried on at different salons marked up $350!! Make sure you do your homework - this store marks dresses up very high! Good luck!

I ditto this question. I am myself going through the same thing. I also found the dress I want on House of Brides website for much cheaper than anywhere else. But I am afraid to order something that important over the internet. Any advice would be much apreciated. Thanks

I would tend to trust them and may be a little biased because I grew up in the same area that their headquarters store is. They`re located in a decent area of town in a decent strip mall on the busiest street. (Think of whatever your town`s major street is with all the chain restaurants etc. And that`s where they are) I`ve never heard anything bad about them and they`re prices seem to be great! I no longer live in the area and I`m having my dress made so that may be why I haven`t heard anything about them. You can always check the BBB for any complaints.

I`m looking at their prices too - and they seem too good to be true. If those of you who have already ordered would keep us posted, that would be great. I tried on one of the dresses available on their website at a salon- and it costs twice as much. If anyone has any more info - please share!

I started this chain of questions and wanted to keep the rest of you informed on how my purchase is going. I ordered my dress a few weeks ago as well as my bridesmaids dresses. Everything in the purchase transaction seemed to go really smooth. I didn`t have any troubles at all. I was timid about doing it over the internet, so I called and asked several questions before I did it and everyone there seems to be really friendly and helpful. My dress is supposed to be in around the middle of November and my bridesmaids dresses are supposed to be in the end of November. I will let everyone know then how it turns out!

HI:

Regarding my opinion on the purchase of the gown I bought from House of Brides, I can only say, saving money is not everything. This was the most horrific shopping experience I have ever had, bar none. I was treated unbelievably bad from the start, given misinformation at every turn and lied to on more than one occasion. There is no way I would buy my dress from them again even if I had to pick another gown. Please, please take my advice and reconsider paying a little more or a lot more and going elsewhere. After spending 1500.00 on my dress, they would not even give me a plastic wrap to cover it so that my groom would not see it. I went across the stree to David`s Bridal and they informed me that no one in Chicago will buy from House of Brides because they are known for not getting dresses in on time and then not doing anything to make things right. The contract you must sign with them is all one sided and very obviously created because they have on going problems with clients.

Please check out the feedback which is all over the internet regarding these people. If you need anything further, please feel free to call me at (319) 363-9540.

I had a wonderful experience. As I posted above, I ordered my dress via the web in August. The website said 12 - 16 weeks for delivery, but I received delivery in about 7 weeks. The order was delivered via UPS in perfect condition and exactly what I wanted. I saved 50% off the price of the dress had I ordered it through a local bridal shop. I couldn`t be happier. The dress is beautiful.

I`m also curious to hear if your dress came in. I was planning on ordering my dress, and my 6 bm dresses from them. It seems like most of the complaints out there are against the service in the salon. Anyone else use their online ordering?

I ordered from House of Brides and received the Bridesmaid dress I wanted on time and at half the price of the London Stores! I had problems ordering initially but when I phoned the order through found the staff to be more than helpful. Please be aware if your shipping the garment into the UK that Customs will charge you ontop of the shipping charge that you pay to House of Brides. However it still worked out cheaper than if I`d ordered it in the UK.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply...planning a wedding has kept me on the go.
I received my wedding gown last weekend (right on time...maybe even a few days early) and it is just as beautiful as ever! I am so incredibly happy and relieved!! It comes packaged in plastic, but it does not come with a garmet bag or anything so you may want to purchase one of those so nobody sees it! And I also ordered my BM dresses from house of brides. They came in probably 6 weeks early and they all look beautiful too! Once they ship your order, they send you an email letting you know. When I got the email, I called them up and asked for a tracking number so I`d know for sure when it would arrive. It worked out so nice and I saved ME and my BRIDESMAIDS lots of money! Good luck to everyone!!

I have had such a bad experience with the House of Brides - Schaumburg. I would recommend NO ONE to their salon after having such a bad experience. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General`s office and am praying I get some assistance/relief. They have lied to me over and over again. What amazes me is how this place has stayed in business. I now know I`m not the only one who`s had such an experience. I haven`t even been given the respect to receive a call back from the person I supposedly have to talk to, to get this nightmare resolved. Yes, they do mark their dresses up quite high! I was told they would beat any competitor`s price and could do so because of their size. I was pressured into signing their VERY STRICT TERMS OF SALE (which completely relieves them of any and all responsibility). Yes, this is definitely a red flag. No reputable company would require such strict terms of sale. They definitely are having a problem with numerous customer complaints! I was told if I found a better price, they would beat the price. Now I`m being told if I find a lower price elsewhere it`s because I`d be getting a `display` dress and this would be the only reason I`d be getting a lower price. This is not true. They will not stand behind their promise/guarantee to honor the lower price. They wouldn`t even hold their price for 24 hours which raised a big red flag for me. I expressed this to them and they promised me if I purchased the dress same day and found a lower price elsewhere, they would honor the lower price. Isn`t it illegal not to give the customer time to decide whether or not they want to sign such strict terms of sale? I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD TO AGREE TO TO BUY A BRIDAL GOWN. Seems like when you call them on their guarantee(s), they do a complete turn around and say there`s nothing they can do.......I signed the contract and they simply have no desire to work with me on their deceptive sales tactics, etc. I am so discouraged about all this and am now learning many people have had similar situations as I have...........Please do your homework.........They have quite a few Better Business Bureau complaints against them............Check them out and BE CAREFUL!

Now, that last messge sounded as if she went to the store. I know nothiing about the stores in Chicago, I ordered online from HouseofBrides.com, which is only related by name. The prices are much cheaper. I got my Maggie dress for 400 dollars less than any bridal salon I visited in person. The dress arrived 4 weeks early, wrinkled, but very very beautiful. The hairpiece was ugly and didn`t work out, but the dress, stole, purse and veil were all very lovely. I have to now find a seamstress. But everything is going so well. However, they did not email me and the package contained no paper work asking how they did. Customer service is not top on their list. Just making money is. But the dress came, I`m happy and all is well.
