Another Victim Chimming In!
I`m starting to feel as upset as A.C. The more and more I read about Depo. I was on Depo for years! I pretty sure at least 4 years. I experienced the long period when I got my first shot. I`ve now been off the shot for a year and can`t seem to maintain a normal cycle. What I don`t understand is why we all are sitting here posting things on the web all over but no one has done anything about changing the problem. It may be too late for some of us, but for others it might not. We are all just victims of simply trusting our doctors! Whats up with that? Shouldn`t doctors have to tell you the whole truth? Not just what they want to tell you or all the good things ever so slyly leaving out all the worst things about it? Anyhow! Just had to get my two cents in!

You have to ask questions before you get answers. Yes, i feel that the depo shot has horrible side effects, but many women just go and ask their doctors the positive points about it. How many go and ask, what are the risks and side effects of this drug? not very many, that`s for sure. It should also be made aware, that in the medical world, depo is a fairly new drug. Any medical doctor would tell you that the long term effects of any drug usually aren`t decided upon until 20 years after the drug has been on the market. That`s right, 20 YEARS> that`s how long it can take for medical data and research to see how many people are affected by certain side effects. They also have to filter out lifestyle risks as well, such as smoking, drug use and alcohol abuse. These can all alter the way any drug interacts with a body. In conclusion, if you want to find out the answers to your questions, all you need to do is ask. It`s like if you go to buy a car. If you don`t ask if it has been in an accident or if it has engine problems, do you think the dealer is going to volunteer that info? Now, if you did ask and are given false information, then you have some reason to blame your doctor. If you don`t ask, the only one to blame is yourself.

Well of course I ask what the side effects and risks were of the shot! My doctor simply told me that there was a possibility that I could gain weight and have a long cycle after my first shot. So, yes I was expecting those things, however, I was not expecting the stuff to take YEARS to clear my system! And because of that I may not have a regular cycle untill it cleared my system. I believe, if my doctor would have told me , and my grandmother who was there for almost all my appointments, that either one or both of us would have hesistated to the idea. So I think it was pretty ignorant to assume that I didn`t have the intelligence or foresight to ask my doctor the full details of Depo.

I didn`t say you didn`t, i said many women don`t ask their doctors questions about side effects. I also pointed out how long it takes data in the medical world to become accepted, 20 years. This is no fault of the consumer, just a little fact that your physician may not know about all the problems with depo because it is such a new drug. I was not attacking you and i suggest you reread my comment from a neutral standpoint. Like i said before, if you asked and were given false info, then it is your physicians responsibility to provide you with all the info he/she has. I was simply saying that for those who don`t ask, the onus of responsibility falls on them.

I read your comment a couple times yesterday. Your allowed to have an opinion and so am I. Personally I believe she did know and I believe alot of these girls doctors knew what the effects were, but just wanted the money from the monthly or bi-monthly visits especially since, I`m sure a lot of our insurance companies don`t cover that sort of thing. I`m not trying to argue with you. This subject just gets me heated sometimes. Especially since I feel like information was withheld from me by my doctor.
